Reviews
This last holiday season, of his own volition, the owner Bill swooped in out of the clear blue and offered to assist in my endeavor of donating full Thanksgiving meals to our community. Without him, I wouldn’t have been able to reach even close to as many folks as I did.
Seeing these one-star reviews are really disappointing because I’m willing to bet, much like when you’re dealing with the majority of local businesses, matters would’ve been taken care of privately and swiftly should calm, concise communication had occurred. Granted, no, we (the royal we) will never be able to appease everybody, though it is our goal to do so — and I’m sure undertaking such an endeavor as they did with their take and bake meals was difficult enough to maintain organization or convey instruction…it’s a very small operation with just a few folks, that had a very large and what I’m sure was a challenging outcome.
I guess the point I’m trying (poorly) to convey is that we work so, so hard for our community. The pressure to deliver, you guys I’m telling you, is sometimes crushing. I mean the lose-sleep-over-it kind of crushing.
Please express your dissatisfaction, if any, directly and I can dang near promise you, that small business owner would rehang the moon just to make it right with the people whose patronage we not only value so highly, but rely on for a living.
Anyway that’s my whole diatribe.
Go have a coffee and a pastry.
After moving back to Casper from a larger city, I really appreciate the variety of cuisines they offer here. The take home meals are such a win too. They are healthy, delicious, and perfect for busy nights when fast food or a frozen meal feels like the only option. There is always something new, something different, and it is always delicious.
If you have not stopped by since they shifted to a more food focused cafe, I cannot encourage you enough to give them a try. I promise you will want to come back.
Also, all the sweet treats here are great as a sweet tooth connoisseur. Their legit take on the viral chocolate in a tart is a 10 out of 10.
And the coffee bar is really good. My husband gives the coffee a gold star, which is not given lightly. I am really picky about matcha, iykyk, and they actually use real matcha. Easily the best matcha latte in town. They also have honestly great prices for coffee drinks.
Lastly, again, support local and totally put Grant St. on your map as a regular stop for meals and caffeine pick me ups.
Mac N Cheese – Flavorless and most noodles were hard. REALLY dry. Kids go to Mac N Cheese. They wouldn’t even finish their small servings of it.
Mashed potatoes – Flavorless and Slimy texture. Seemed awfully close to instant potatoes?
Gravy – Flavorless, good consistency but not much to have me begging for more.
Rolls – Good flavor but Rock hard, even after trying to re-heat.
Green Bean Casserole – Flavorless. Was any seasoning considered?
Chorizo Sausage Stuffing – Flavorless. Large thick chinks of bread. Hardly any meat. EXTREMELY dry.
Pineapple Brown Sugar Ham – The BIGGEST let down. Had our family throwing this away after one bite. Texture was like eating out of a can of SPAM. I’ve never experienced ham “smush” like wet canned dog/cat food between a fork.
Brussels Sprouts with Bacon and Cranberries – Great Consistency and flavor.
Chocolate Espresso Martini Pie – Not bad. Not great. But wouldn’t order again. Better local establishments to order fresh pies.
Caramel Apple Cheesecake – 100% recommend.
All in all, I would say for a price of $375 this was a let down. I would highly suggest anyone considering this place, do not rely on them for catering needs or rely on Grant Street Grocery for any big/special events.
I didn’t receive any printed instructions on reheating/baking but realized later on that other customers had printed instructions so not sure why we didn’t get any for our order.
I spent $350 and was very disappointed in the meal.
Rolls: Hard
Ham: Weird mushy texture (maybe from the glaze sitting on it overnight before getting baked?)
Turkey: It was an ok size- it wasn’t anything special flavor wise.
Mac & Cheese: Lacked flavor, noodles were hard.
Green Bean Casserole: I think they forgot to season the pan we received. It was very bland.
Stuffing: Dry with huge chunks of hard bread.
Mashed potatoes & gravy: Nothing special about either- wouldn’t go out of my way to order these.
Brussel sprouts: These were actual good. Flavor, texture, etc.
Desserts: Carmel apple cheesecake was yummy, chocolate espresso pie was okay, there are other local bakeries that make better desserts.
What REALLY gets me is the lack of customer service.. the response from the owner on reviews and via email. That alone made me never want to support this business again, and then add in the wasted $350 meal and now I really won’t be back.
This used to be my favorite place to take my kiddos for Saturday morning donuts but after seeing the owners responses to customers and how I was spoken to on the phone about the forgotten rolls- I’ll find a different local business to support.
To top that off the environment was calm, clean, and peaceful with many other yummy options. The young lady who helped me was very friendly and kind.
Thank you for the best experience in Casper!
