I used to really love Granite City, but wow, don’t think I’ll be going back any time soon. Ordered two take out meals. The Prime Rib French dip was ok, but the fries were incredibly soggy and they forgot the side of ranch they charged a dollar for. The Chicken Toscano was pretty much inedible, hard and dry with a layer of congealed cheese, no sauce. The mashed potatoes were hard and old. I also ordered a side of fries, didn’t receive the side of ranch they charged a dollar for once again. Guess I should have opened all the boxes to check. For $50, I was hoping to be able to actually eat the food. I was about 10 minutes early before the order was ready, but it’s clear the chicken sat in the window for quite some time.

Prepare yourself to be underwhelmed!

I took my family there on Friday, and while we genuinely had a pleasant time, we all agreed on one thing: the food was spectacularly unimpressive. Not bad. Not offensive. Just… aggressively mediocre. Every dish carried the bold, daring flavors of salt and grease and nothing else.

The menu had all the creativity of a corporate millennial. It’s like someone said, “Let’s make Applebee’s artisanal,” and everyone applauded. It’s packed with trendy buzzwords and “elevated” comfort food, but somehow forgets to include the radical concept of actual flavor. It feels engineered in a boardroom by people who once saw a chef on TV.

To be fair, the restaurant itself is lovely. The service was exceptional. The decor is classy without being overly pretentious. It is welcoming for families as well as intimate dates. The plating? Beautiful. Very Instagrammable. If taste buds were optional, this place would be unstoppable.

Granite City seems to be a restaurant that values quality service, ambiance, and aesthetics, but it could care less about actual culinary skill or taste.

This is a restaurant for people who want to look classy but are not foodies nor could they care about actual food. There are dozens of places around town where you’ll get far better meals for far less money. They just might not come with the same lighting and photo opportunities.

If you’re hungry for vibes, this is your spot.
If you actually want good food, go somewhere else.

Wow what a disappointment tonight, being my first time and will be my last time , definitely dropped the ball. I give it 5 stars to our sever sarah shes was super amazing as well friendly, on top of her game. Never went without a drink bring empty to everyone getting there food on point. But we just did a work thing there and wow burger which is hard to mess up was dry and the bacon about littley broke my wife and i tooth the bread hard as a rock and the fries cold.. everyone at or table had something negative to say about quality of the food as being the first visit for most of the table I can say 90% won’t be back. Even if it’s free no thank you the restroom paper towels everywhere and the smell was like a busy down town bar after a game disgusting. For being a ” high class business ” definitely better service and cleanness at the local casey’s. Definitely not somewhere to come check out . As for next year definitely be finding somewhere else, hopefully.

Went here tonight for a party and it is an understatement to say I was disappointed. The service was extremely lacking. We had 2 servers for our table and still spent a good chunk of time with empty drinks. We asked the servers for a round of ~20 shots, bartenders choice, and the bartender chose well vodka. Well vodka! Talk about lazy and apathetic! It tasted like bartons vodka, the lowest shelf you could get – pathetic really. We had one check, which they knew was an open bar, and still chose to serve us WELL VODKA. I mean, I was just shocked. The bartenders were even so lazy that when we asked them to take a photo of us they insisted on finding another person instead of taking two seconds to snap the photo. Mind you, this was when the restaurant had completely slowed down to a point that all three of them were just washing dishes. The food was even more disappointing. When you have a party of people, it should be considered a complete failure to serve only half the table their food. Moreover, they waited so long that the half of the table that had food finished before bringing out only half of the remaining unserved food. When we finally received the food it was abysmal. The salmon was drier than the desert. The chicken Tuscan was soggy and the mashed potatoes were hardly mashed – more like potato chunks. Overall I was extremely disappointed with nearly every aspect of our visit. Dont waste your time and money. 0/10

Stopped in for drinks and appetizers while watching Husker volleyball. Not too busy as it was between lunch and dinner.

Service was excellent.
Friendly staff, kept drinks filled.

Food: fast, hot and tasty.

First time visitor, looking to return again for lunch or dinner in the future. Great place to watch sports.

Only con: Bathrooms were cold with darker ambiance and cold water to wash hands.

Recommend.

This place is great! Amazing value for high quality food, great beer, and even better staff. The manager is probably one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet. Highly recommend getting a growler and returning for fills on Thursdays.

I’ve been to Granite City occasionally and the servers/staff are always friendly. However, today our server Angela was by far the best server I’ve had. She was friendly, attentive and familiar with the menu items. The food was delicious. We were able to sample a few of the beers which was very helpful so I can make a choice to go with my entrée. I went with The Benny. If you are looking for non-alcoholic drinks, they also have really good mocktails.

Bartender was completely overwhelmed. 12 customer’s and 4 of the 12 sat dry for,10 minutes. She was responsible for servers and bar patrons and couldn’t keep up. People say down after us were served before us. The bartender brought us plates after the appetizer was delivered. The food runner who dropped off the appetizer neglected to tell us that the spinach dip bowl was scalding hot.
Poor service experience. Food was good.
