Grand Street Café absolutely delivered an unforgettable Valentine’s Day dinner for us. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt warm, romantic, and perfectly set for the evening. The food was outstanding — beautifully presented, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor. Every course felt intentional and elevated without being overdone.

What truly made the night exceptional, though, was our server, Larry.

Larry’s attitude, energy, and professionalism took the entire experience to another level. He struck the perfect balance of attentive without hovering, personable without being overbearing. You could tell he genuinely cared about making the night special for everyone at his tables. His recommendations were spot on, his timing was flawless, and his positive attitude made the entire evening feel effortless and relaxed.

Valentine’s Day can be chaotic at restaurants, but Larry handled it with calm confidence and a smile the entire time. He made us feel taken care of — and that’s what hospitality is really about.

If you’re going to Grand Street Café, ask for Larry. He made our Valentine’s Day memorable in the best possible way.

We’ll absolutely be back.

I have eaten at many restaurants in the Plaza area and I rarely leave reviews. However, being my first time eating here, the experience and service I received at Grand Street Cafe was absolutely amazing!
I took my parents out for dinner last Saturday, and the service Zach provided was impeccable. He was very attentive and made sure to make our night feel special.
Definitely recommend you ask for Zach!
The food was delicious, we ordered the oven roasted chicken
Which was so juicy and flavorful.
The roasted mushroom spring rolls as an app had that satisfying crunch.
Overall, the restaurant has a beautiful atmosphere, outstanding service, and delicious food!
From the bottom of my heart, thank you!

In from NYC to visit a friend here and stumbled upon this little nugget! We had a service animal with us and decided to eat outside and were accommodated. Had certain choices made was steered another direction by our great waiter Sammie Hampton, III!!! I had the bar burger and my friend had the chicken salad. Mine was better I think although I didn’t actually taste hers. We had several great discussions with Sammie and his sidekick Max who did a great job as well for day two! Even with my friend getting locked in the bathroom for 20 minutes it has been one of the most enjoyable meals of the weekend! Thanks so much for the service and laughs!!

Absolutely excellent steaks. I have been enjoying Grand Street Cafe’s exceptional food and service for over 30 years now. Consistently exquisite offerings in a classy atmosphere. Located near the Plaza, it is easy to patronize and find.

4 of us went last night Jan 31st. 3 of us had Old Fashioneds. Some of the best we’ve had, all agreed.
Vicky, our server read the table perfectly throughout the meal. Relaxed atmosphere, upscale feeling but not outrageous prices.
No loud music, we chatted on and on. Salmon Salad.

I decided to give Grand Street a try for Thanksgiving this year and it did not disappoint. It was extremely busy, but every employee I encountered was attentive and positive, which was impressive on its own considering how busy they were. Per usual, the service was fantastic.
I have tried many different restaurants in the area for Thanksgiving over the years and this was by far the best I have had for traditional Thanksgiving food. Every side and protein had great flavor and everything was fresh due to the sheer volume of guests and constant replenishment of food by employees. My food was always warm and my drink was always full. Overall, this was the best experience I’ve had on Thanksgiving at a restaurant in the Kansas City area and will now be my location of choice for a holiday meal. I am a regular patron throughout the year, but the staff functioned like a well oiled machine during a time of much higher than normal traffic and all served with a smile on their face. I was thoroughly impressed.

Thanksgiving at Grand Street this year was an absolute home run.

I booked a 3:30 Thanksgiving Day seating and went in expecting “good for a holiday buffet.” What I got was way closer to a full-on, white-tablecloth feast that just happened to be all-you-can-eat.

The buffet spread alone was insane: silky mashed potatoes, candied sweet potatoes, roasted root veggies, rich gravy, Brussels sprouts, green bean casserole, stuffing, cranberry sauce, multiple salads, rolls, ham, roast turkey and a prime rib carving station. Nothing tasted like it had been sitting under a heat lamp—everything was hot, well-seasoned, and felt like someone actually cared when they made it.

The turkey was moist (which never happens on buffets), the prime rib was tender and juicy, and the classic sides were exactly what you want on Thanksgiving: comforting, not over-complicated, and executed really well. The roasted veggies and Brussels sprouts had great texture, not that sad mushy buffet vibe.

Desserts were downright dangerous: pecan pie, apple pie, pumpkin pie, pumpkin cheesecake, assorted cookies, and these ridiculous chocolate ganache brownies. The pumpkin cheesecake and the brownies were worth the trip by themselves.

Service was just as strong as the food. Plates were cleared quickly, waters and sodas were constantly topped off, and the bartender was *on it*—adult beverages came out fast and made it to the table without us ever feeling like we were waiting around. For a busy holiday service, everything ran impressively smooth. No cold food, no undercooked anything, no “sorry, we’re out of that.” Just steady, generous refills and a staff that clearly had their act together.

Bottom line: Grand Street turned what could’ve been a chaotic holiday buffet into a legit, stress-free Thanksgiving experience. Plentiful food, killer execution, and sharp service. I’d happily take my family here as a Thanksgiving tradition—absolutely worth it.

This place is a wonderful combination of modern & contemporary but also casual. The service is special, very upscale in that department. The food was amazing and the portions were not so huge that you end up with leftovers for three! Lol

Grand Street Café, the location just east of the Plaza (behind Winstead’s) is elevated dining combined with a consistent personal touch that feels utterly unique in the city. The food, even on raucous dining days like Thanksgiving or Mother’s Day, is consistently, reliably exceptional. The staff — bonus when you personally engage with them — is full of people who care about you, your experience, and their restaurant. I most recently dined there for their epic Thanksgiving buffet amidst a flood of people who, while knowing this was a crazy day to encounter a restaurant, were smiling and so happy to spend their meal with terrific food and a caring staff. I can’t recommend this long-term KC heritage restaurant more enthusiastically. Its owners are A+ in serving their diners, their numerous regular clientele, their staff, and this community.

I have been going to Grand Street since it’s opening and was a PBJ establishment. It has changed ownership a few times on the years. However, the quality of the food still maintained a high standard. I can say as of the 20th of January 2026, I can no longer say that. It literally was my granddaughter’s 17th birthday. We chose Grand Street on the Plaza because we had not been to this location in a while and after lunch we could head down the street and go shopping. The shopping was Great! The lunch, not so much.

My daughter ordered the Braised Short Ribs. I ordered the Pecan Crusted Trout. My Granddaughter ordered the Smoked Ancho Brisket Tacos. For an appetizer we ordered the Roasted Mushroom Spring Rolls. Let me say the best of the dishes was the appetizer. My trout was overcooked and the sauce tasted rancid to me. I had my daughter and granddaughter taste it. My daughter said she didn’t think it was rancid but it tasted “funny” and it seemed “bad”. My Granddaughter said it was “nasty” and tasted “spoiled or something”. My daughter’s short rib was ALL fat. After 2 small bites the entire plate was just a mound of fat sitting in the sauce. Now to the birthday girl. There were three tacos. She ate only half of 1. The “brisket” was so dry it was difficult to chew.

I exchanged my trout for the short rib. Of course, this was prior to us finding out that my daughter’s serving was all fat. I packed my replacement short rib dinner up to go as well as my granddaughter’s meal. I will say that my daughters meal was removed from our bill. However the entire Birthday meal celebration was ruined due to a horrible culinary experience there at Grand Street on the Plaza.

Finally, adding insult to injury, the gentleman that identified himself as one of the owners, tried to defend the poor quality of meal and seemed rather indignant that I asked to speak with him. After expressing my concern, two sentences into his defense, I said, “thank you very much I just wanted you to know. ” Upon that statement I left.

I would to give the most positive part of our meal experience to Larry, our server. He was courteous, kind, and attentive. He was the most positive part of our experience with well deserved kudo’s!
