Came for cheese fondue, it’s average. Beef tartare was okay.
Good location and patio seating facing paragliding landing zone was a major highlight.
It has a terrace and a couple of different rooms inside. We were asked to sit in the entrance area, rather than in the main restaurant, which we found out afterwards was occupied by a group.
While aonther table was occupied near to us, we did not find this a cosy welcoming environment equivant to a grand cafe.
As to the fondue, we asked to be served moite moite fondue, but the waitress did not know what this was and could neither explain clearly the composition of the cheeses in the fondue that was on the menu. As there was no other choice, we went ahead and ordered their house made fondue.
Tastewise this was a rather bland fondue, not great, although, after we added some salt, it became better. The fondue is served with bread, potatoes as well as some cornichons and onions
Originally we were offered brown bread, but this was changed for white bread without a problem.
While we were happy to have eaten some dinner, we were expecting more from this grand cafe which has such a long history.
▫️Food: We ordered the following dishes:
1. Sliced veal Zurich style with mushroom cream sauce, served with Rosti potatoes
2. Sautéed chicken breast with chanterelle sauce, buttered noodles, and seasonal vegetables
3. Pasta with chicken and mushroom sauce
4. Pasta with shrimp and tomato sauce
5. Classic cheese fondue served with bread, boiled potatoes, and pickles
6. Local pork sausage with onion sauce and Rosti potatoes
Personally, I would recommend dishes (1), (4), and (6). It was my first time trying the traditional cheese fondue (5). I’m not used to the smell and flavor of this dish.
▫️Waiting time: There were enough seats available, so we were able to get a table right away on a Friday night without a reservation.
