At a time of bland global chains, Gourmet House is among Algonquin’s distinctive, local gems of the Fox River Valley. This was my late mother’s, God rest her, favorite restaurant for good reason. An inviting atmosphere, delicious food, wide-ranging menu, and unbeatable prices. The generously-portioned lunch options are served until 3:00 PM. See photo of my lunch portion firecracker chicken for under ten bucks. My wife loved the house lo mien. “House” means chicken, shrimp, and beef served together in a savory mix. When I declined an egg roll, the server graciously offered crab rangoon as a substitution at no charge. Xièxiè Gourmet House! The clean, welcoming, tranquility of the dining room transports one out of the ordinary, far-flung suburbs of Chicago and into the rich exotic flavors of Asia. The tables are thoughtfully set with beautiful blue glasses, white linen tablecloths, and quality dining ware. This is one of the few places you can still dine without noisy TV screens blaring and flashing ads in your face. Savor the flavor, be present in the moment, and crack open a fortune cookie for a pleasant dining experience.

Alena was super effective, our jasmine tea was served with a lemon juice concentrate, delicious. Wonton soup was amazing! Our dishes served hot and fresh. Granddaughter thought the orange chicken was the best! The lunch meal is a great price, comes with soup & egg roll

The food was delicious, my server was super nice, the atmosphere was pretty chill. The only thing I didn’t like was my smoothie. It wasn’t to my liking. But if I’m ever in that area and have a craving… I’d definitely stop by again. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.

The food is good but the service is horrible. This is not the first time that I have had issues with delivery. I ordered food and only half was delivered. I called and was told the rest would be delivered in 10 minutes. That never happened. I ended up going to the restaurant after I paid for delivery and was given a major hassle due to their issue. Their service leaves mass improvement.

Went today and ordered 2 lunch entrees, 1 Mongolian beef and the other sweet sour chicken. The Mongolian beef was so dark and flat, looked like some nasty stuff from days ago. The sweet sour chicken was so hard from the batter they were in and the inside chicken was so soggy and the sauce smell like fish. The soup was awful, and smelled of mildew/nasty dish water. Called to complain and to my surprise the guy says to me after I tell them how disappointing this lunch was he responds with”no one else complain” I asked him what’s his name at least 3 times and just hangs up on me!! horrible. DONT WANT PEOPLE LIKE THAT TOUCHING MY FOOD AND NEVER GOING HERE AGAIN!!

They take online orders but don’t check them when they are busy. Christmas Eve dinner ordered at 5:15, finally at 7:45 we drove over there and they tried to say they didn’t have an order. Showed them the confirmation and they found it on their phone. Wound up getting our dinner 3 hours after ordering and it required us driving there even though we paid for delivery. I get that it’s a busy day, but there was zero accountability and total lack of concern that we literally would never have gotten our food if we didn’t drive there looking for it.

A very nice restaurant! Simple with excellent service, food and prices. Being at this restaurant is like being in your Chinese friend’s home. Highly recommended!!

Large portion sizes, delicious food here. My favorite Chinese food in the area. Plentiful seating(a party of 12 arrived today) and delicious tea. Food is always fresh and hot. Small bar for a quick wet of the whistle.

Chicken taste dry and old, fired rice barely any flavor like zero almost, beef same scenario and had a hint of being old too, I was surprised since had good amount of positive reviews and at end my order got messed up but I’m not as picky it as I am about food, sorry but that’s the last time I’m visiting this place, first time visitor but I don’t think there’s any redemption from that

I’ve ordered takeout from here many times and it’s been great, but my dine-in experience today was lackluster. Which sucks because I do love this place! There was a fly cooked into one of my crab rangoons and a few of my peeled shrimp still had large pieces of the shell left on. Service was great and the Thai tea is always perfect, just a few things this time that made me take stars off :/
