I visited this tavern expecting a pleasant, cozy atmosphere, but the experience was rather underwhelming. There was almost no music, and fout screens were showing sports. About 15 guests were quietly chatting, and although there were four staff members, they didn’t seem very attentive.
Food:
I ordered a grilled chicken and blue cheese sandwich, fries, and steamed broccoli with Parmesan. Unfortunately, the sandwich was a big disappointment: the chicken was dry, and the bread tasted cheap and bland. The broccoli was overcooked and falling apart — without the blue cheese, it would’ve been completely flavorless.
The only thing that was truly great was the fries: not greasy, perfectly salted, and crispy.
Service:
I was given a dull knife that couldn’t cut even icecream if would want to, so I had to get up and ask for another one because no staff member was nearby. When I finished my meal, the waitress brought the bill without asking if I wanted anything else, which made me feel like they were eager to get rid of me.
Unfortunately, during the day this place doesn’t feel nearly as good as it used to. If it weren’t for the fries, the rating would barely be a two.
I might give it another chance in the evening, just to see if there’s still any of the atmosphere I enjoyed two years ago.
Quality and quantity meal vs prize : score 2 of 5
That said, several other items held up well. The chicken tenders remain a standout—crispy, flavorful, and a dependable choice for anyone who likes classic comfort food done right. Their burgers continue to be strong across the board, and the mac and cheese and fries are reliably good, making them an easy side to recommend.
The staff Matt (the owner) and Amanda (waitress) were excellent throughout the visit: friendly, attentive, and quick without feeling rushed. Their service definitely elevates the experience. Gordon Street Tavern also shines when it comes to drinks, offering a great selection of beers along with well-made cocktails, which adds to the overall atmosphere.
While not every dish was perfect this time, the combination of strong service, good drinks, and convenient location keeps this tavern on my list.
If I had to complain, which I’m not, I’d say it is a bit noisy and cozy, but that’s not really something that can be fixed. I would also try to stick to the more American themed dishes as my partner has had better falafel, but for not being a Mediterranean restaurant it was still quality, and we ate it all!
We will certainly be back and maybe try out the porch seating next time.
I really like their half and half appetizer and dip my French fries.
It’s also worth noting that they include menu selections from a local farm.
Good for lunch, dinner or just drinks. Also has a fairly large outside patio.
Service was slow as can be. Waitress would disappear for 15 mins at a time as they were understaffed
