Went here with a friend, or at least only a friend when the night started… Good To Eat was good but imperfect in a few ways. To focus on the positives: the fried tofu block with Tàishi Pàocài was perfection. What I imagine little drops of heaven taste like . The eggplant noodles were good, we had mixed opinions on the noodles—very good or slightly under cooked depending on who you ask; the eggplant had a unique flavor profile that was unexpected and eggplant lovers will love .

It ended up being a fun night

One less pleasant part of the experience was the wait time and lack of reservation system for small parties. We waited about 10 min to check in, then waited in the back for 15 min, then finally got to our table and only ordered 5 min later. The food came out in only 10 min, but gosh I felt like I was a freight train being schleped around like that.

Classic and innovative Taiwanese dishes, flavors are solid. Quite busy, service leans on the slow side, prices on the high side for the amount of food you get (i.e. $22 for one eggplant). Those factors combined make this a difficult spot for repeat visits

We found this Taiwanese restaurant and decided to give it a try. We had the Lu Rou Fan, Taiwanese Sesame Noodles, and the Whole Squid “Yi-Ye-Gan” (一夜干).

The Lu Rou Fan, braised pork over rice, was alright. But I preferred a richer, stickier texture from slow-cooked pork skin collagen.

The Taiwanese Sesame Noodles tasted good, it has a really well-balanced flavor between sesame sauce and Sichuan peppercorn and chili, but it leaned slightly towards the sweeter taste.

The standout of the meal was Whole Squid “Yi-Ye-Gan”, it grilled to a perfect texture, and the flavor was on point. Highly recommended!

Overall, I feel their classic Taiwanese dishes are enjoyable, but the restaurant leans more toward a fusion and fine dining style, which is a bit pricey in my opinion, and doesn’t quite capture the feel of home-cooked style.

Food: High quality Taiwanese dishes that are hard to find elsewhere in the East Bay. Some dishes felt too small given the price and what they were (e.g. noodles). We didn’t over order, but were on the threshold of still feeling somewhat hungry.

Service: There could be improvements to the efficiency of the seating service. We waited close to half hour to get seated even though there were a lot of open tables. Once seated the service and speed at which the food came was good.

The food, the ambiance, the service and the plates were are top notch. They had an amazing selection of beers and sake. We opted for non alcoholic beverages and the teas and drinks were very good. I was especially happy with the special of the day which was tempura with fennel, radish and nardello peppers. The dessert needed work and was not to the level of the savory dishes.

The food was good, but definitely overpriced. They also added an extra $2 charge for crunchy chili oil without informing me beforehand (I requested hot sauce, and the chili oil was the only option they have). This was the first time I’ve ever been charged for chili oil, and I was really shocked when I saw the bill. Yet the chili oil tasted nothing special and not spicy at all (the chili oil offered for free by the popup taco truck next door was way better). On top of that, the rice wasn’t fully cooked, the center was hard. Disappointed as someone born and raised in Taiwan. Will not return.

Unfortunately, this was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had.

Paying $8 for a cup of tea is already hard to justify, but it wasn’t even hot enough. The restaurant seems to be trying to position itself as an elevated, upscale Taiwanese spot, yet the flavors were very underwhelming. The only somewhat interesting flavor was the kimchi and even that was $8 for a tiny side dish served in a very small cup, which is honestly ridiculous.

Another major issue was the temperature. The restaurant was freezing cold inside, to the point where I was sitting in my jacket the entire time, unable to focus on enjoying the food. It’s hard to enjoy a meal when all you can think about is how cold you are.

To make things worse, the food came out one dish at a time, which felt awkward and almost funny considering how small the portions were.

Overall, extremely disappointing experience. I was not impressed by the food, the value, or the comfort of the space. I will not be coming back.

I’m Taiwanese and tbh this place isn’t the most authentic, but it totally has those Taiwanese food vibes (everything looks pretty plain but packs a lot of flavor, and those sweet and savory dishes). I really enjoyed everything and would for sure come back! Special shoutout to the fu-ru fried chicken—so good

My favorite are the standing classics of the pepper numbing chicken ($22) with their special sauce which I always say they should bottle and sell . And the spicy GTE noodle for $9.

I’ve come here since they first opened and these dishes are consistently always tasty. And cost effective and huge Return on value!

They have new dishes they often debut and rotate so you have to decide if you want to experiment. Sometimes they aren’t always to my taste but some are wonderful.

The owners and staff are always so kind and friendly and lovely. It’s very relaxing to come here and eat!

Everything was so good. The wait was not super long when we got here at 8pm on a Friday night. They even let us order some drinks and wait in the waiting area with fire pits. Food was phenomenal, even as simple as the yam leaves stir fry. I’ll come back!
