Established in 1989, the much lauded Golden Unicorn Restaurant pioneered the neighborhood’s first upscale Cantonese-style dining restaurant. The restaurant has become an established choice for casual family dining, weddings, and corporate events alike in the spacious banquet halls.
Massive, bustling Cantonese mainstay ferrying a wide variety of dim sum via fast-moving carts.

It’s been quite awhile since I last visited Golden Unicorn, and I must say that the ambiance has noticeably improved. Including the restroom We were on the second floor and the dining area is less cluttered and is culturally appealing. I am very glad to see that the dim sum dishes are still served through the push carts. Wish there were more places that offered this. The dishes were all tasty but the waitstaff forgot to place an entree that we ordered. They were also slow in bringing utensils that we requested. Nonetheless, we still had a wonderful time celebrating the Year of the Horse.

I ate at Golden Unicorn in early January because I was craving authentic dim sum while visiting New York, and I’m so glad I came here. This location was recommended by a friend, and it absolutely lived up to the recommendation.
While the outside of the restaurant doesn’t initially seem like it’s in the nicest area, the inside is absolutely gorgeous and very eye-catching. The red and gold interior is beautiful and really sets the tone for the experience. We arrived around 2:30 PM and were seated quickly. Almost immediately, the dim sum carts started coming around offering food, with a huge selection to choose from. You’re also provided with a menu that includes photos, which makes ordering very easy, especially if you’re not familiar with the names of certain dishes.
The hot tea is complimentary and absolutely delicious, with a great herbal flavor. Everything we tried was excellent, but my favorite items were the soup dumplings and the pan-fried dumplings. The piglet buns were also incredibly cute and fun to try.
Service was very attentive and quick throughout the meal. The only minor downside was that there was a large screen in the middle of the restaurant that appeared to be frozen and loading the entire time, but it didn’t take away from the overall experience.
We really enjoyed our time at Golden Unicorn and would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for authentic dim sum. I would definitely come back for more on my next visit to New York.

Very delicious dim sum. Served in an authentic way, with carts around. We got a bunch of small dishes to share and they’re absolutely delicious. Our favorite is the durian dessert 冰皮榴莲, so creamy and fresh. Apparently they make it fresh everyday so they didn’t have it when we first asked for it. The leek dumplings are so good! Lots of ingredients like shrimp, egg and lotus root. Beef tripe with turnip is so refreshing paired up with the chili spicy oil. The tofu wrap is so tasty. Porridge’s absolutely amazing. You can tell it’s freshly cooked and prepared with lots of time. When it comes to the sticky rice dishes, I prefer the pearl one more because it’s softer and with more kinds proteins. The other one is just so plain and rice is dry. Popular place and friendly service!

My family and I was in NYC to visit from Philadelphia. We have dimsum in PA as well but the experience and the food here taste so much better!
Everything was steamed hot in the carts and every dishes was so savory and tasty. They have a wide variety of option and deserts. I definitely recomended the shumai, chicken feet, and the tofu skin rolls.
We had a great time here and we’ll definitely come back if we’re in the city the next time!

Golden Unicorn remains an authentic dim sum place where you can still see staff pushing traditional carts through the aisles. It is a significant improvement since my last visit a few years back; the 3F interior offers beautiful Hong Kong / Chinese wedding vibes, perfect for family gatherings. You must try the shrimp Shumai — we ordered several rounds. While the atmosphere feels like Lunar New Year, the toilets need attention. They are too few, tiny, and crowded, which doesn’t quite match the elevated feel of the dining floor. Overall, a great festive spot for a group meal.

Been here when studying in East coast long while ago and thus want to revisit. Love the interior and spacious seating and of cause the food carts pushing around the tables for you to choose are much fun and missed, most dim sum restaurants not offer the food carts nowadays, even in Asian countries. Food are delicious generally, we enjoyed a lot on all dim sum dishes. We had brunch on a weekday and thus no wait time. However, the second want to revisit on a weekend lunch time, we had waited almost an hour downstairs outside the elevator and still so crowded. Had to change to another nearby dim sum restaurant after an hour wait. Recommend to go on weekdays or go earlier over weekends and prepare for long wait.

ABSOLUTELY the BEST Dim-Sum restaurant in the Northeast area!!
Fresh, tasty and very authentic Cantonese cuisine just like what you can find in Hong Kong.
Although the dining room could be a bit noisy, the service is actually quite fast/good.
Reservations are highly recommended. If you want to just walk-in, it’s better you show up before 11am on Saturday and Sunday. Otherwise you may have to wait up to one hour.
They also have a to-go only entrance on the ground floor.

Golden Unicorn delivers a genuinely traditional dim sum experience that feels increasingly rare. The classic dim sum carts rolling through the dining room and the seasoned auntie servers calling out dishes add an authentic, nostalgic charm that immediately sets the tone. It feels like stepping into a long-standing family gathering rather than a curated restaurant concept.
The food is comforting and familiar, offering a homey, traditional Asian meal that prioritizes heritage over trends. Portions are generous, flavors are straightforward, and the overall experience emphasizes warmth and community. Golden Unicorn is a place that honors tradition and provides a reassuring sense of continuity for those seeking classic dim sum done the old-fashioned way.

Visited on a Friday at noon. Were seated quickly without a wait. There were plenty of ladies with carts going around which was perfect because my party of 9 came hungry. Food was hot and tasty, especially the short ribs, chicken feet, steamed pork ribs and the bao buns. Will definitely come back when I’m in the NYC area.
