I tried the buffet, and it was okay overall. The price matches the quality, everything is fairly average. They offer chicken, beef, and vegetables, and out of all the dishes, I liked the Tsao chicken the most. The soup was quite good, and the noodles were fine as well. The fried chicken was a bit dry during my visit.

The service was amazing. We had a party of 6 and were the only ones there on a Saturday at 5 pm. The food was excellent. Multiple members of our party were placing new orders mid-meal after trying each other’s food. We will be back!

Golden Palace is one of my favourite Chinese restaurants in town. It serves delicious Cantonese dishes. The service is prompt, and the waitresses are so nice and kind.

Highly Recommended: Salty Flowing Egg Yolk Bun, Steamed Fish (Bass), Char Siu (Roasted Pork), House Treasure (mixed vegetable and meat), Mushroom and Chicken Clay Pot Rice (the perfect mix of soft and crunchy rice with sweet and savouriness), Fried Pork Intestine (+ Spicy Fried Intestine with Preserved Vegetables), Peking Pork Loin (Sweet and Sour Pork), and the Seafood Pan Fried Noodles. I also love the Steamed Okra, and the Sufu Spinach.

I have never been disappointed at Golden Palace, and I don’t think you will.

the buffet is not available on the weekends so i did not get a chance to try that. however pork congee and fried bread stick were my favorite. this brought back my childhood memory 🙂 dim sum was good too. i ordered roasted duck noodle to go and it was still good even when i reheated it the next day.

Update Nov 2024, more than 2 years after last post

UPGRADE rating to 5⭐️ FOR CONSISTENTLY SUPERB CANTONESE DINNER SERVICE.

*** This is a conclusion from several independent visits between myself and foodie friends.

(Photos uploaded separately at the time of update).

The lunch buffets on weekdays is NOT the measure of this place. ITS GEM IS THE UNDERSTATED CANTONESE A LA CARTE, best enjoyed at supper time .

It’s truly superb, the flavors brings back fond memories of Hongkong, a culinary center known for myriad Cantonese foods, from the street stalls to takeaways to casual and fine dining.

THIS IS PITTSBURGH’S BEST PLACE FOR ROAST DUCK.

In addition, the dumplings are reminiscent of traditional Cantonese DimSum.

Indeed, while this not a DimSum eatery (unfortunately Pittsburgh DOES NOT YET have a true DimSum Restaurant), the dumplings are exceptionally Cantonese!

It’s a BYOB, so bring your favorite wine for dinner.

Service is excellent.

*****

SURPRISING AUTHENTIC CANTONESE, against the cheap Chinese-style greasy salty lunch buffet (corruption of Chinese cuisine). Please please forget that buffet.

ORDER FROM THE MENU, and awaken your palate to the subtle flavors of the Cantonese. The menu is short and very navigable. My recommendations:
1. Cantonese duck – juicy, fat rendered very much to the almost paper thin skin
2. Char Siu pork – unique Chinese BBQ pork, very lean
3. Sautéed Bokchoy with garlic

They also have a small dim sum selection – the best is the Shu Mai and Shrimp Leek Dumplings.

It’s a find for Foodies.

Surprisingly authentic and fresh Cantonese dishes. We tried the roasted duck, crab congee, and sticky rice chicken. I lived in Hong Kong for years and the roasted duck I had today was above average, the skin was very crispy. I didn’t expect to have this authentic Cantonese food here in Pittsburgh. Also, the dishes we ordered were all made with fresh ingredients. It is very difficult to cover the rotten tastes of ducks and crabs.

This is a pretty mid Chinese buffet. I did not get sick or anything, which is good, but there isn’t a big selection like other Chinese buffets. Nonetheless, the food was okay and nothing got me sick, so this is worth at least 3 stars

I think this place is actually quite underrated! They specialize in Cantonese food, and some of the menu items are truly unique. I have tried a few of their dinners, and everything has been pretty satisfactory. A few days ago, I went and just got a little snack from them.

I tried the flowing egg sugar buns. They were actually very tasty as well. Not incredibly sweet, but still very flavorful. Filled with a ton of the sweet paste on the inside. I’ve had this from a few places, and this has been one of my favorite versions. Tons of filling too! Solid portions, okay prices.

All in all, I think this place is often overlooked, but it’s quite good! Very solid deal for the portions and unique items. I would recommend it!

This was the worst food I’ve ever had in Oakland. I ordered sweet-and-sour chicken. They brought me out four pieces of over cooked chicken with no sauce on it. She grabbed the sauce from the buffet. It wasn’t made with it, but more importantly, the fried rice was absolutely Horrible.!! There were no scrambled eggs, green onion, little baby carrots, or baby peas in it nothing the worst ever!! There was a huge amount of that rice and very little chicken. I will not be back.

There was actually a piece of chicken in my tofu, and the breading (why was there thick breading on the tofu?) on the tofu was crazy thick. They were fast and friendly, but I will not get the tofu ever again.
