Our favorite restaurant in wine country. The food is consistently spectacular, the environment wonderfully comfortable and intimate. Every item on the menu would be a “must-have” dish at another restaurant. Most recently we were floored by the tuna, which transported us to the peak of summer on a dreary, rainy winter day.

By far, one of, if not, my favorite restaurant. I don’t often leave reviews, but felt compelled to leave one immediately upon returning from the “experience” at Golden Bear Station.
I have been to many restaurants in my lifetime, many of which are high-end in beautiful cities, with numerous courses and famous chefs. I’ve been to Mom & Pop restaurants with amazing food.
Tonight, we were tired and thinking of eating in our room at the The Lodge in Sonoma. We had no intention of leaving our cottage with a toasty fireplace. But as we searched restaurants in this area, this restaurant popped up in an article & the menu looked interesting so we decided to get up and explore.
The restaurant was described as a diner, but it is a gourmet creative culinary experience with some “dineresque” decor. Once entering the roadside building (which looks like a place you wouldn’t necessarily notice), we were greeted at the door by a lovely woman who understood what it meant to create a warm, yet trendy greeting that would start the dining journey. We sat at the corner table with seating reminiscent of a diner, but adorned in a warm caramel color with beautiful large pillows. At the table, sat a candle setting the cozy, warm mood. The restaurant was dimly lit (but not too dim) and the music in the background played with a modern urban beat that felt reminiscent of a New York City restaurant.
Then came the food… Heidi, with a humble confidence in the menu described the course and answered our questions. As each starter was served, we recognized that we entered a world of culinary creativity that was impossible to compare. I have never experienced noodles and vegetables prepared with such thought, lightness and flavor. Each bite, each wine pairing, each detail was created with intention, an intention to wow and create an excitement for the next dish. I have never tasted vegetables prepared which such brightness, and balanced with ingredients that create a playful adventure.
We can’t wait to return to try everything on the menu. This is a place you don’t want to miss. Wonderful for a diner date or a party with friends and great conversation. We were beyond pleasantly surprised (massive understatement). What started as a tired night without much will to head out, ended up as the best night that we could not have imagined.

We had an incredible experience dining here during our honeymoon. Heidi, Joshua, and the rest of the team were so hospitable in such a cozy atmosphere. The food was unexpected and delicious. A breathe of fresh air!

Fantastic food, really friendly service and great vibes. Try some of the really creative and delicious fusion dishes (like the Bolognese on rice cakes). Like that it was a low key but elevated vibe, not noisy but felt lovely – all tables filled, but no kids – perfect for what we were looking for. They helped us choose an excellent bottle of wine. (Review for 4 adults after a day of wine tasting – get a ton of dishes and share everything family style so you can taste more things!)

We had an incredible experience at Golden Bear Station. The food was perfectly cooked — from the salmon to the ribeye — every dish was spot on. The tomato water was such a lovely, unexpected touch that really elevated the meal. The service was outstanding, attentive without being intrusive, and the atmosphere was elegant with a fun twist of character, especially the red lighting. A truly memorable dining experience. We can’t wait to go back again.

You must try the rice cake with bolognese sauce. The Hen of woods mushroom was tasty. We shared the Bib Salad. I suggest always order the Bib Salad, you’ll find many tasty items amongst the lettuce.
We brought a wine, however their wine list is excellent.
We will be returning. It’s all good.
Something about the food and attentive service made the experience special. Watching the food preparation provided an extra element too. I watched my duck roast over the fire!

This place is incredible — it’s genuinely the best restaurant in Sonoma County in my opinion. Their food is inventive and incredible (the Korean rice cakes with bolognese is one of the best dishes I’ve ever had), but what makes it next level is the hospitality. It’s owned by a husband-and-wife team who are gifted at their craft, and make you feel like you’ve been welcomed into their home, all while enjoying elevated wine country comfort food. The views of neighboring vineyards at sunset are also really special and add to the vibe. If you want to impress someone, or just celebrate life, go here. There’s nowhere else that comes close in the trifecta of food + hospitality + vibe.
