Social Profile:

Custer’s Gold Pan Saloon is the oldest saloon in the Black Hills of South Dakota! Established in 1876, the saloon is one of the longest-running establishments in Custer. We offer a full liquor bar, beer, seltzer, and cider (sometimes even food, if we like ya), so come on by. We’re proud of our history but like to keep things fresh. So, stop in and check out the oldest bar in the Black Hills, with a modern twist.

This is a very western themed saloon. They have a full bar with a few beers on tap. The only food that they have is bar food. The staff was friendly and it’s a good place for a drink or to shoot some pool.

The girl working here was amazing. I wasn’t sure what I wanted so she asked me a bunch of questions, made a drink and it was perfect. She listened to my tastes and came up with something that suited me. I can’t ask for more. She was also very friendly so we were thrilled to have stopped here.

Stop in in the place that calls itself the oldest saloon in the west and learn the code of the West is Hospitality, Courtesy and pause, “how are you”. It’s not a New York mixologist but then again this is not the reason for the visit, so pause and ask for a quality two finger pour over ice.

This is a fun place to visit and generally a friendly atmosphere. I really liked the bar dog! Unfortunately, the food service was abysmally slow. I think we waited 45 minutes for a hamburger. So enjoy a beer and the atmosphere but considered dining somewhere else. I guess… Perhaps it was just the tourist season that had things running slow, will try again in October or so when the tourists have all gone home.

We had drinks here one evening while we were traveling. We opened a tab and when we were ready to leave we paid cash. We did not get our card back (yes, we should’ve been more on top of things but it’s also their responsibility). We realized the card was left behind when we were 4 hours away and noticed that they charged money on our card even after paying cash. I called and asked that the card be destroyed and photo proof sent (nothing received like she said she would). Travelers beware!!

Not for children. Good food, good waitresses and bar lady servers. Right on the main street of Mt. Rushmore road. Pool table. Four stars for atmosphere because I find the music too loud.
