We popped into Gnarly Girl Pizza and instantly loved the vibe. It’s a cute, playful space with a nostalgic Ninja Turtles theme that makes the whole experience feel fun right from the start.
We ordered three slices: the Controversy, PBJ, and Fred Flintstone, and every single one was a standout in its own way. The crust was perfect, sturdy but still chewy, with that toasty finish you only get when people really know what they’re doing. The sauce was incredible, fresh and vibrant, seasoned just right so it complements the toppings instead of overpowering them. The cheese had the perfect pull (yes, we noticed), and the toppings were generous and evenly spread so every bite delivered.
The Controversy was bold and balanced – I am a pineapple on pizza girly, the PBJ was unexpectedly delicious in that sweet-savory-spicy way only the best pizzerias pull off, and the Fred Flintstone was the kind of hearty slice you remember later and crave again, the cup crispy pepperoni were a perfect touch.
Overall, Gnarly Girl has great energy, standout slices, and creativity backed up by serious flavor. We’ll definitely be back!

Stopped in here while in the area at lunchtime. Fast service and fun little spot with ninja turtle theme. Could use some cleaning for sure but the pizza, by the slice, was excellent. My kids are both picky with pizza and they both loved it. If I lived local, I’d definitely be back.

Food is good, but not worth a 45 minute wait or longer. Classic 18in NY pepperoni had good tasting base and pepperoni. Also got the buffalo chicken fries. Not enough chicken or cheese, really big fry based. Overall would go back, but after waiting 90 minutes after being told 45 minutes, it might be a while…

This is a great place to go with family or a date they have cool murals around the restaurant. Pizzas are pretty loaded and taste very good!!!! They also have a good selection of beer.

We got garlic knot half buffalo chicken half flinstone pizza and garlic fries. It took ab 1h for us to get the pizza but the fries were really quick, ab a 5-10min wait, the fries were soo good we ate them b4 we got the chance to take a pic. The pizza was definitely worth the hour wait, the place was pretty packed so that’s probably why it took a bit long. Regardless I think it came out at the perfect time, staff was really attentive and following up with us while we were waiting. Everybody was really friendly. I really recommend this place

The place is mainly hype tbh, we ordered a huge pepperoni garlic knot pizza which was decently priced but honestly the flavor was mid, that wasn’t the only thing that really pissed me off. My big major ick was the fact that we waited an hour and the place wasn’t even that busy, sadly I don’t recommend this place unless you’re in the area I would not go out of my way to come here again.. oh and they charge you for the ranch fyi

Gnarly girl is an amazing experience both culinary wise and customer service. The vibe is fun and well worth the visit. I live in salt lake and anytime I go into San Diego I got a hit gnarly girl. Love this place

Heard this spot had great pizza so me an the Family decided to try them out. First off, they had so many different types of pizzas to choose from that looked and sounded delicious, so thanks to their lunch special (2 slices and a drink) which was reasonable and affordable, we were able to try the different styles of pizza. I had the “Hot Honey Pepperoni” and the “Fred Flintstone”… needless to say THE WHOLE FAMILY loved their individual slices. Then came the main even, The Chicken Parm with Garlic Knot Crust and it was simply AMAZING!! The wings were big and tasty as well. Definitely recommend giving this place a try if in the San Diego area.

The pizza overall was really good. The service was great, despite it being busy. The only reason this isn’t 5 stars is because only half of the pizza is what I ordered. It was still a great pizza don’t get me wrong, I was just disappointed because we drove 5hrs to not get what I fully ordered. Will recommend and still come back though♥️

I genuinely don’t understand the hype around Gnarly Girl Pizza. This place is all attitude, no payoff. The pizza is wildly overpriced for what you get, and the so-called “garlic knot pizza” is a gimmick that should come with a warning label for disappointment. It’s basically an overpriced novelty item pretending to be food—greasy, underwhelming, and absolutely not worth the premium they charge like it’s some kind of culinary revelation.
To make matters worse, their business hours seem to be more of a suggestion than an actual schedule. Show up when Google says they’re open? Coin toss. Social media says one thing, the door says another, and somehow you’re still standing there wondering why you bothered. It’s hard to support a business that can’t even be bothered to accurately tell customers when they’re open.
And good luck with parking. Unless you have infinite time, monk-level patience, or enjoy circling the block like a desperate vulture, you’re out of luck. Parking is nearly impossible to find at any reasonable level of convenience, which just adds insult to injury after realizing you’re about to overpay for mediocre pizza.
All in all, Gnarly Girl Pizza feels like a place that survives on branding and buzz rather than quality, consistency, or basic consideration for customers. Save your money, your time, and your sanity—San Diego has far better pizza options that don’t treat you like an inconvenience for showing up hungry.
