Let me explain! The food was REALLY GOOD. But, our order was lost and there were several issues. We arrived at 7:22pm and left about 9:40pm. We waited well over an hour for our food, other people came and went. Should I give this place a 1 star? Probably, BUT I won’t! I’ll give them 3 stars for the service we recieved and for them making the situation right. I appreciate what they did to rectify our experience. Their customer service was great. When we return I hope that our experience will be better, we ate for free, next time I hope to pay for my food. Yes, it’s true, it does smell weird.

I will say, this place took my husband and I back to Italy when it came to the food! It was amazing. Our only complaint would be the portion size for my husband’s standard. Which, keep in mind is not their fault because he eats like a body builder or teenage boy. But honestly, the foods flavor was spot on! They also have limoncello and grappa! If we lived in DC we would very much be back! The customer service was FANTASTIC!!!!

Giovanni’s used to be one of my favorite Italian restaurants in DC but it must have been sold to new owners who are trading off the name. The place smelled moldy and the food was mediocre at best. Nothing like the place I remember. When I couldn’t make a reservation on Open Table I should have know that something was wrong.

They have gluten free options for pasta, you just have to ask cause I didn’t see it listed on the menu. We ordered through door dash and didn’t eat in. All of our food was so good! The only thing we didn’t like was we had ordered ravioli and it was over $20 for 6 pieces. It tasted good but we felt more should’ve been included.

We went in hesitant because we were the first of the evening crowd. It didn’t take but 10 minutes and the whole place was packed. It is a small restaurant but every table was taken, many of them by locals that come often because of how great the food and the environment is. There are plaques all over the walls and pictures in the hallway of famous/well known people who have eaten there. This is some of the BEST ITALIAN FOOD I have ever eaten. We had fettuccine Alfredo and a seafood pasta that were amazing and the the cheesy garlic bread will forever haunt my dreams. Also, the wine was great too. This was the “don’t judge a book by it’s cover” story for us because although it looks quiet and quaint from the street, it had the most delicious food and warm family feel from the people there. I wouldn’t go back to D.C. to see anymore museums but I might go back to eat here again.

Giovanni’s remains a delightful nostalgic icon in DuPont – come for the pasta, stay to chat or have a limoncello with the wonderful owner! It is true to its roots – little has changed here over time, but that’s not a bad thing. It is a great place to spend an evening as you are never rushed and can enjoy everything at your own pace. The service is friendly and helpful. I would say to expect a very authentic Italian meal (they make everything in house). Don’t expect an instagram worthy bathroom – this place has been here for literally 20 years, though it has changed ownership fairly recently!

I visit this trattoria once a year and have been doing it for the last four. The quality and availability of entrees has declined substantially, but what is getting worse is the restaurant itself. It’s literally falling apart. When I stepped in for dinner, a foul smell hit me, sewage smell to be precise. The owner and staff tried their best to mask it by using all sorts of scenting devices. The men restroom was out of service so I had to use the ladies. It was utterly dirty. I can’t imagine a lady entering it. Overall the restaurant rests on the laurels of his former owners, but time has come to call it a day. I will not return.

I wanna make sure that i always try to write good reviews on google map. I loved the tiramisu for dessert and other menu i ordered were not bad. However, for the carbonara spaghetti, honestly ive never tasted that kind of thing before….. i think there was something wrong when cooking because my friend that i went tgther, she said that it doesnt taste like that when she visited before…….. however this time that carbonara tasted really weird…..

I had the most incredible dinner at Giovanni’s Trattu! From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was warm, welcoming, and authentically Italian. The service was impeccable, with our server being both attentive and knowledgeable.

The real star of the show, however, was the food. I ordered the Osso Buco, and it was simply divine. The veal was so tender it fell off the bone and melted in my mouth, and the rich, flavorful sauce was a perfect complement to the creamy risotto it was served on. Every single bite was a taste of heaven. I cannot recommend this place enough!
