Gino’s North has that comfortable neighborhood Italian spot feel where you know you’re about to leave full. The pizza is cheesy and satisfying, with a crust that holds up nicely to all the toppings. Their pasta dishes are hearty and classic, the kind of plates that feel familiar and comforting. The space is relaxed and welcoming, good for a casual dinner with friends or family. It’s not trying to reinvent anything — just serving solid, dependable Italian-American favorites that hit the spot.

If you come here expecting Peggy’s crust recipe, you won’t find it here.
I love a good tavern pizza, but the crust here is chewy.

If you have her recipe, bring it back! She made a delicious, light and flaky crust.

I should start by saying we chose this restaurant with a misconception and a lack of information. We were visiting from out of town and were meeting a friend for dinner. He chose this restaurant because it was close to him and we would have an easier time parking than going to Gino’s East in the Streeterville neighborhood. He, like us, assumed that of course you could get deep dish pizza here (or anywhere that bills itself as a Gino’s).

We’ll come to find out, this is “Gino’s North,” as explained by the surly bartender/waiter, “we don’t serve deep dish here.” That was highly disappointing to say the least, being it was our one and only chance on this trip to get that classic Chicago dish. That being said, the flat pizza we did order was excellent. At least there was that.

The other issue we had was the place is tiny. Just some bar stools and booths that can fit about four. We managed to stuff in 5 adult and set up one child on a chair in the aisle. It was a bit uncomfortable for sure. Additionally, I ordered an IPA (India Pale Ale) and he brought me an EPA (Extra Pale Ale) – for non-beer people, it’s like if you ordered a coke and they brought you root beer. Yes, both are sodas but not the same thing at all! Thankfully it somehow never showed up on the bill (divine retribution or dumb luck? Either way I’ll take it).

In closing, if you are a party of four or fewer, want flat pizza, and aren’t a beer snob (aka connoisseur), this is the place for you.

Use to be good. Lately taste like frozen pizza . Crust has been bad . And quality not good. Couple weeks ago got a perfect fresh one. Literally tasted like a frozen pizza tonight

Love Gino’s North! Wonderful and traditional tavern style pizza in an atmosphere that takes you back to a more civilized time. The drinks from the full service bar were well made and strong and the service was quite good even though a little slow coming out of the kitchen. Great place and excellent pizza.

Gino’s Tavern Style pizza is REAL Chicago pizza. This place is awesome, it’s part restaurant and part bar, and 100% local and authentic. I absolutely recommend this place to someone wanting to hang out with locals I’m a casual setting, while getting some high quality food.

Great neighborhood spot. You can go dressed up or down and either way you are going to feel at home!

Pizza was good and the garden salad was actually a pretty good deal for what you get. I personally did take control of the juke box but a friend did and it was a ton of fun!

Great vibe, great staff, and the thin crust pizza was good. They serve RC, not Coke or Pepsi. We were very surprised that we could not order Chicago deep dish like you can at the other location. I also enjoyed the Caprese salad. The booth bench needs to be redone, as it is taped and the springs are broken so it is incredibly uncomfortable. Thank you!

Touring from Ohio. Was excited to get some pizza. The antipasto appetizer was great and helped with the wait for the pizza.

Pizza looked nice (was a hawaiian pizza) but was a bit lacking on the toppings.

They do not season the pizza. It is like eating cardboard. It is impressively bad but edible if you add enough salt from the salt shaker. How they made a hawaiian pizza taste like nothing is something I don’t want to know, but I was too hungry to care. Domino’s pizza is unironically better. Save your money and order out.

Wouldn’t come back again for a 20$ bad pizza.
