I recently had breakfast at Gilchrist inside Tropicana Atlantic City, and overall, it was a pleasant but mixed experience. The restaurant itself is very charming—bright, inviting, and has that “cute, local café” vibe despite being right in the middle of a busy casino resort. It’s the kind of place where you feel comfortable settling in for a casual meal before heading out to enjoy the rest of the day.

The staff were friendly and respectful throughout my visit, which helped make the experience feel warm and welcoming. Service was attentive enough without being overbearing, and the overall atmosphere was laid-back in a nice way.

As for the food, it was decent but not without flaws. I ordered eggs, and while they weren’t made exactly the way I requested, the rest of the breakfast was fine. The flavors were there, portions were fair, and nothing tasted off—it just wasn’t executed perfectly. It felt more like diner-style cooking than elevated breakfast, which can be either a plus or a minus depending on your expectations.

Price-wise, it seemed reasonable for being inside Tropicana, especially considering many resort restaurants tend to be on the higher side. Gilchrist feels like a nice little escape where you can grab a straightforward meal without breaking the bank.

All in all, Gilchrist at Tropicana is a cute and reliable breakfast spot with friendly service. While the food could use a little more attention to detail, it’s still worth stopping by for a casual and comfortable start to the day.

We assumed there was a reason this place was lined up each time we’d pass, with people willing to sit at the counter instead of waiting for a table…their food is JUST THAT GOOD! The line moved quickly, service was excellent, food -delicious! Known for their blueberry pancakes, which are a unique cross between a crepe and a pancake, and are served with a generous portion of whipped butter, they didn’t disappoint. Like a little piece of heaven on the end of your fork! The Italian omelette came highly recommended; it was excellent. So so so cheesy, with sausage, onions and green peppers. Ordered the home fries well done; they were good, as was the rye toast. It’s a diner style restaurant, nothing fancy but the food and attentive service made for a great experience. Note: only open for breakfast and lunch. One bill per table, pay at the counter. Accessible from the street or the Tropicana. Definitely a do over.

I was going to take a picture of the food, but when it arrived it looked so good I forgot. So I took pictures of the empty plates. My girlfriend said her club sandwich was one of the best she has ever had. They definitely did know how to fry bacon.

So we were in Atlantic City for 3 days and had breakfast here every morning. I forgot to take pictures each morning because it he food looked so good I was just in a hurry to eat it.

Just a heads up 2 of the 3 days there was a large line to get into the restaurant. The service was so good that they turned tables that we never wait more than 20 minutes.

Had a great breakfast at Gilchrist while visiting Atlantic City. We were seated quickly and our server was super sweet! The food came out fast and it was so delicious. I got the cream chipped beef over rye with home fries, eggs, and grits. Best breakfast I’ve had in a while eating out!! Will stop in every time I come to Atlantic City.

“It could be 2 minutes. It could be 20 minutes.” – John at the podium when asked how long the wait would be. This guy is a breath of fresh air. Most places would say “20-30 minutes”. Very dry delivery, and a positive attitude.

Atmosphere tip: if you choose to sit at the counter, be prepared to squat like you’re on the pot. There is a large 12 inch step (shown in picture) where you must put your feet. The stools (with backs) are fixed to the floor. This makes the counter sitting experience a little less comfortable.

Ryan was a great addition to our Gilchrist experience. Very friendly and provided outstanding service.

One team member shared how he got his Gilchrist shirt to look light brown rather than the black shirts others had. He put it in peroxide!

WonderWomanJawn said the pork roll was delicious. I had the banana walnut french toast phenomenal!

The staff seems to work together quite nicely. Several team members stop to buy to ask how we were doing. Teamwork makes the dream work!

Very good value. The money you spend is well worth it. The entrance is accessible from the street. No need to go into the Tropicana hotel for breakfast.

Also had the hotcakes. The menu is right. They are the best you’ll ever have. Interestingly enough, the “AC Batman” also frequents the restaurant. We ran into him and shared justice stories.

We arrived at 130 only to be told closing early on a freezing Friday closes at 2pm. We walked many blocks to be explained about some bs. Will definitely let everyone at our conference know, im the last speaker and gave an opening mention to Gilchrist as a great breakfast. Well im following it up with my experience today. So crazy closing early a diner in the city.

A true hidden gem! This “retro diner” style restaurant sits on the Chelsea side of the Tropicana. They feature breakfast and lunch options. The food was served quickly and was very tasty, (especially the pancakes!) Also, the employees worked together to ensures diners get great service. The prices are very reasonable as well. I definitely recommend this place. Will definitely be back!
