Recently went here for dinner for the first time. Looked into several places on the hill, but this one came highly recommended. We tried the pasta con polpette and penne Arabriata both with a Gian-Tony’s salad. The pasta con polpette had a perfectly balanced sauced with the acidity, sweetness and savory flavors. Wasn’t too think or thick. The pasta was fresh and didn’t leave me feeling overly stuffed. The meatballs were full of flavor and the perfect texture! The Penne sauce was incredibly unique with the saltiness and spice, unlike any sauce I’ve had before. The salads were simple and delightfully refreshing. Staff was very professional, polite and knowledgeable about each dish. The restaurant was cozy with plenty of seating. We had a reservation for 5 so street parking was not difficult either. I am adding Gian-Tonys to a must have on the hill and can’t wait to come back and try more. Thank you for the wonderful experience!

We had a wonderful evening at Gina-Tony’s. Tony himself greeted people at their tables during the meal and all of our salads, entrees, and desserts were delicious. We highly recommend this wonderful establishment.

My wife and our family of 8 recently had a fantastic dining experience at Gian Tony’s under the new ownership. It was by far the best dining experience we’ve ever had on The Hill. The service was impeccable, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. The new owners, Joe and Dominic, stopped by our table to introduce themselves and check on our experience. It is quite obvious that they know how to treat their customers and make them feel welcome. Great place, great food, and great people!

Immediately upon our arrival on a very, very cold night, the waiter managed to pour an entire pitcher of water into my lap and all over my sweater. They did dry my sweater out for me before I left. The meal service is very slow, and the quality of the food was very disappointing. There was actually nothing special about the experience at all. The owner came over and introduced himself to us and told us that they had just bought out the family restaurant and that they were taking it over. I will say that the ingredients of the food seem to be lackluster and really there was nothing special about it all. So disappointing because my family came in from out of town and I wanted to show them the authentic Italian experience on the Hill in St. Louis. It just didn’t work out. We had a party of six. We had a party of five and the bill was over $200. There was no comp for any of the inconvenience and slow service that we encountered. ‘ I will say the saving grace was the dessert. The dessert was very good.

All of the restaurants on The Hill serve Italian foods, but this one had some of the best service yet. I didn’t feel rushed and I didn’t feel ignored. Servers were gentle and attentive. The leftovers were boxed up for us. Very professional wait staff. Portions were generous and delicious. I didn’t get main course photos because I dove in: it looked so good.

LOVELY evening at Gian-Tony’s. Party of 6 on a hot day, we were seated inside. Dark and cool but nice with candles and the way I remember all the Hill restaurants when I was a kid. Service was absolutely wonderful — the young men who waited on and assisted our table were outstanding. Food was terrific. We loved the pace of our meal because we were catching up with friends, but if in a hurry you may need to indicate this up front as our dinner was about 2 hours, driven by the pace of the food rather than our lingering over drinks. But it was perfect for us! The chicken dish with cognac sauce was succulent, salad was great, and they provided side pasta with olive oil rather than butter when I requested it. Would return for sure.

Excellent!! The food, wait, and service were fantastic!! Our first time here. My husband’s beef tortellini with peas & prosciutto was the BEST tortellini we’ve ever had, from homemade to restaurants. You need to come here just for that dish! I had the eggplant involtini. It was smooth and delicious!
The personalized photos were a nice touch to the decor. We recognized many of the celebrities. But an added special layer was that the chef (Tony) came out to check each table during the evening. We’ve never experienced such a personal touch at other establishments in the area. As we walked to our table we learned the hostess has worked there 3 years and other family members have worked there as well-that says a great deal about the work environment. And the other servers greeted us or wished a good night. So glad we tried a “new place” tonight. We will be back when we come to town!

Anyone giving this restaurant less than 4 stars ⭐️ for food is suspect. Some of the best pasta I’ve eaten and my family lives in Italy and I visit YEARLY! The pasta Roma is the best! All the food Is excellent. Could use a little more lighting my only critique about the atmosphere. The staff Is very professional. Sorry it is being sold because owner is retiring, but hopefully he will find a buyer who has the same passion for the food.

I ordered the special pasta, which had crab in it, so a few shells could be expected; however, I had to spit out about 15 pieces of seafood shell/tendon which dampened my appetite. The flavor of the dish was good. My husband loved his meal- carbonara. Service was meh, we wanted dessert but had to forgo because of the slow service. It seemed as though our server had been moved to another room/area and forgot about us.

There is a lot to love and a lot to be desired. The service is fantastic. The bread is dry crap. I know, it’s just bread but this is an ITALIAN restaurant and they serve dry tasteless bread? Fried ravioli was ok but could use a better topping of cheese. The lamb chops were fantastic BUT the knives they gave were the cheapest cutlery that bent and kicked the chops off the plate. Why offer cheap knives? Veal parmigiana was just ok. Was more soggy than crispy and the veal didn’t have much taste. The crème brûlée was very good. Crispy sugar topping and creamy cream. A little over priced for not caring about details. They could just do a bit more to be a true 5 star experience. Still very good but lacking.
