Most authentic Vietnamese in Hamburg. Big portion and reasonable price. Can’t taste any MSG from the soup. Would visit this restaurant again.
Update in October 2022: Price increases and the portion is smaller. The broth for pho is getting tasteless.

If you are looking for the most authentic vietnamese experience in Hamburg, I will definitely recommend this restaurant. From the furnishing to the food, this restaurant made me felt like I have travelled to an eatery in Vietnam.
It is also nice that the menu comes with photos of the dishes, so you will not be at loss of what to order. Highly recommend to try the fried spring rolls and also the Bun Bo Hue. The noodle dishes are also served with a fresh plate of vegetables that you can add to the soup. The noodle soup serving size is quite huge, but if you still have some space in your stomach, I will recommend to try the dessert (assortment of jellies with beans and coconut milk).
Only downside is that the restaurant is quite far away from the city centre and you will need to take a bus from central train station for 20minutes to get there.

I tried almost every dish and they are each unapologetically Vietnamese! If someone is of different opinion, just say “naja” to them and walk away (to the restaurant for a bun bo hue).

New owner but with staff from Bistro Hoàng Mai. Old favourites are still on the menu. My usual from the old place Bin Bo Hue is still there but the stock is at least 25% watered down compared to before. The great bunch of herbs and sprouts has been cut down into tiny pieces with lettuce bulking up which is not the same and ruin the authenticity. It is a shame as it seems the accountant has gone in and cut a bunch of costs. The price itself is a moderate increase from before but the actual product is inferior.

Highly recommend anyone who’s looking for authentic Vietnamese food in Hamburg. Not place where you can have candle light dinner but you definitely get the most delicious Vietnamese food with reasonable price here. Since I can’t eat beef or pho soup, I always order coconut drinks with jelly and mix beans, Vegetarian Tofu dry noodles & crispy Vietnamese spring rolls. My family & friends love the Phô here.

Oh my good – Jenfeld. This Part of Hamburg is not really known as a top place to go and to go out for. But “top location” often means a typical place for hipsters and/or tourists. So – follow the stars of the web and get surprised.
To me Hoang Mai is one the most authentic Vietnamese restaurants in Hamburg. Uuuugh, yes it is strange here.
First problem – the door is closed. In general you enter the restaurant via the shop beside. Hey if you solved this problem, the spartan interior and green walls may make you think “am I right here”.

The waitress suddenly turned up, presented the menu. Asked If we are in first time. Explained all options of the menu (in really perfect German). Some of the food is vegetarian, but can be ordered with broth. In this case, broth is made of bones – no longer vegetarian at all. Good to now but anyway – bone broth, sounds really good!

Because most of the people here are Asians. One more point to assume the food is authentic!
