Laid-back neighborhood outpost offering up classic Thai cuisine in a colorful dining room.

Ghin Khao is a charming Thai spot with a casual semi self serve setup. The menu is compact yet thoughtful, and everything we ordered hit the mark: the chicken satay was deliciously nutty, the shrimp salad bright and refreshing with a nice kick of spice, and the pad kee mao comforting and well balanced. The grandma’s pork belly was a standout – crispy, fragrant, and indulgent without being overly fatty. The service was incredibly warm & friendly that further elevated our visit. Easily one of the most memorable and cozy Thai food spots in town, and we’d love to return soon.

Before I went here I already knew that I liked Thai food quite a bit, but it wasn’t quite my favorite cuisine. Going here made me change my mind and fall in love with thai cuisine in general. The papaya salad is a great combo of fresh veggies with a great kick of spice and umami at the end. The larb gai is my benchmark for other Thai restaurants, and so far none have come close. The pad kee mao has the best noodles in terms of chew and char. I seriously can’t get enough of this place and it’s always a treat to get it when I’m in the area. God bless the chef that’s in the back especially since each time I’ve been here they were running solo. 5 stars please never close down.

Dont ignore this tiny Thai restaurant from the exterior look, neighbourhood if you are craving for authentic Thai food, the taste makes it all up No wonder why they made it to the list of Michelin recommended restaurants in 2020-21.
Still I would not order the Satay Chicken, but rest on their menu sets a new bar for all other Thai food joints in town

We went for a Friday dinner and there was only chef working so everything was a bit slow. However, the food was phenomenal. The som tum was authentic: not too sweet like other spots I have tried. It was refreshingly tart and fragrant from the kumquat. The larb gai was also excellent with all the flavors very well-balanced. Pad kee mao had a great char and the delectable smoky wok hei. The texture of the noodles definitely elevated this dish: thin yet possessing such a satisfying chew. Definitely get their khao soi special if they have it! It’s one of the best that the city has to offer.

Per usual, hype does not equal quality food. All in all, super disappointing meal. The chicken satay is suppose to be yellow curry and coconut marinated chicken, but tasted bland and lacked flavor. Grandma’s pork belly was just thin fried pork pieces and barely any sauce. Wait was almost two hours from order to table, with only 5 tables around us. Couldn’t stand the customers around us talking loudly about how much they love the West Loop, gambling, and improvised experimental film. If I wanted to eat dinner and be served tiny bland plates for $50 and listen to idiots rave on about venture capital I would just travel to the NW side.

Where do I start? This place is small and cozy with cool and funky vibes with great music playing in the background. There is one waitress and one cook. The service by the waitress was unmatched. The food…..we got the cucumber salad, chicken satay, pad kee mao, and basil chicken with string beans (I forget the real name). Everything was phenomenal. I will be returning with my appetite and some drinks since it is byob.

Rice noodles with Shrimp is excellent, packed with flavor. Crab fried rice is good
Chicken is very bland and tasteless in the fried rice, that is the only disappointment.
Limited seating and semi self service.
It will take 20min for the food to arrive.

Hats off for the delivery actually arriving earlier than expected. Food was nice and warm. I got the Pad Khee Mao which had a fair amount. Good mix of veggies with the red onions being my favorite since they added a crunch. The chicken was plain but cooked well. The noodles were soft and tasty. The only thing this needed was some spice. There was none at all which would take it from a dish I enjoy to one that’d I seek out.

First time here and it did not disappoint. I’m surprised I haven’t been here before. The food was delicious and this is great spot for people who don’t eat meat. The vegetable potstickers and rice noddles with tofu was amazing. Plus the atmosphere was beautiful and soothing. I will be back!

The best dish here is Grandma’s pork belly. It had a really crisp and well seasoned breading.
Everything else was good too, but not mind blowing. I wouldn’t order the laksa again.
The service was a little slow too for how not busy it was. At least the food was prepared super fresh.
