This is a staple in Marion and although I’ve eaten at this spot on multiple occasions, my review reflects this day.
Onto the Food:
Breaded Bone-In Chicken Wings (Drums 6.5) and (Flats 8): First, love breaded wings. Second, I love flats. The drumsticks were not as tender as the flats. I tried ordering flats only, but they were not able to accommodate. The Ranch Dressing (7.5).
Chili (7.5): I ordered a cup. I enjoy eating chili with no beans. This spot has just that. I added Cheese and Onions for an extra charge.
Okra (6) Although fresh and slightly crispy on the outside, they tasted slightly slimey on the inside.
Double That Burger (6): The bread was too soft. It didn’t seem to be toasted. If it was, it was only on the inside. The meat, although had potential, did not have any seasoning which made it very bland. Jalapeno Mayo (5)… Didn’t have much taste. Burger did not come with fries or onion rings.
Bottled Soda (10): They had Coke Zero!!!
Atmosphere (7): Has a nice homey feel to it. You can see the regulars there and most are very friendly.
Service (9): Very friendly and attentive.
Overall (7): It was okay. The food lacked flavor and may not be the highest grade of product. We may not visit for a while. The wife seems done with this spot.
Disappointed,
“Big” Henry
The service was a little slow getting started with the menus and drink orders, but then things picked up.
Grilled chicken breast was really good and not dry. The bacon cheeseburger was good but they charge extra for the cheese (.59) and the bacon ($1.49).
The fries were good at first, but the more I ate, the more they started to taste like catfish. I suspect they’re fried in the same oil as the catfish. I’m sure this is the norm at most places, but you could really taste it here.
Despite the issue with the fries, I’m keeping this one on my “go to” list. The rest of the menu looks so good!
Plenty of parking, easy to get in and out of.
