Just had “Get Some Aloha” out at Checkpoint 221 in West Salem for the first time. Wow wow wow amazing. The Kalua Fries are to die for !! Then I got the Hula Chicken which was delicious. Great quality food. This is the regular size Hula Chicken they also have a Large. The fries portion was way bigger than I expected too especially for the price! Definitely recommend!

Okay, here’s our experience. The food didn’t look like the pictures. I order the kalua fries and it was very meh. It didn’t have sauce, and the pork was good but there was barely any there. I wanted to share this so I was expecting a full food container cuz that’s what’s pictured but not what I got. We ordered a side of mac salad and omg thats bland. We order the Spam Musubi, and it was sad. I understand that spam has gotten expensive but you’re charging well enough to put a proper serving. It was way too much rice and the seaweed did not taste fresh. I deconstructed it. So I’m still on the look for a good Hawaiian food is Salem. We won’t order from there again.

NOT AUTHENTIC. Crunchy chicken. But ZERO FLAVOR. The macaroni salad was also bland. AND kinda pricey at nearly 20 bucks for a plate at a food cart, is kind of ridiculous.. especially since a quarter of it is just white rice

I LOVE Hawaiian food. I tried this food 3 times and here are my thoughts. I rated 4 stars for food and service but gave them a 3 star overall rating BECAUSE each time the food was not consistent and the food is WAY too costly for what you get IMO. The Hula chicken was perfect the first time and WAY too saucy the second time. I order the “build a plate” with the chicken and the beef (sweet ribs) which adds an additional $5 to the normal build a plate cost. This puts it over $20 and both times I only received 6 pieces of rib. If you don’t know these, the are very thin. Both times the food was very good. The rice was very good but the mac was different each time. I do not have a problem supporting a place that is a little more pricey but I want to feel like I am getting my money’s worth and I want the food taste and quality to be consistent. Not sure I will eat here again because I am really not sure what I am going to get. Huge potential but dissappointing.

Food here is usually good. But the young man who is part owner made me the wrong food. Which I wouldn’t have been upset about but there also wasnt much food too eat!

Spent $48 on two plates and fries. Neither of the pork plates came with rice which I thought they would for $20 a plate. Food was good not worth the price for the amount I got

This was a very delicious meal. I was disappointed however that it didn’t come with a sauce on the side. The beef could have been a bit more tender. The taste of the sauce was really good and kinda sweet. The rice was good and well cooked. Didn’t take long to get the food and will definitely recommend going to try them. I ordered the Beef Bulgogi.

44 dollars for two plates is bold, reluctantly me and my wife were made to wait 30 minutes for the katsu chicken. Once our food came out, the katsu chicken was slightly dry but had good flavor. The hula chicken was balanced, crispy, and seemed fresh. That day they had bbq short ribs, the quantity was tiny (for a $3 surcharge as well) and most of what was on my plate was actually straight bone. I’ve never had an experience quite like it, considering there wasn’t even that much meat on there to begin with. The rice was mushy and way overcooked, a big glob of mush was in the middle of my serving. Mac salad had a really really strong mayonnaise taste that me almost gag, personally this Mac salad wasn’t what I remembered from local Hawaiian restaurant in Portland owned by families, this one was far too soupy and pungent.Usually in situations like this quantity over quality is the name of the game. Not only did the taste disappoint, so did the price. In conclusion, HAWAIIAN TIME IS BETTER !

Unfortunately this was how my first experience here was. I got the Kalua Pork, it was very fatty and as you can see very oily. The portions are extremely small compared to Hawaiian time portions, and it’s not anything special, mediocre at best.
