This was my first time trying the oxtails and they were phenomenal. I ordered oxtails with white rice, macaroni salad, cabbage, and my favorite thing ever the shrimp alfredo mac and cheese. The empanadas were also something new that i tried and they were very delicious. This is a very great restaurant, every thing i’ve ever ordered from here has been worth every penny. AND TRY THE SWEET POTATO CHEESECAKE!!

****Update: on 9/11 930pm- saddens me to have to change my review. My husband and I called in for a to go order, and the gentleman that picked up the phone said very sluggish, “we don’t do to go orders on the phone”. I said oh OK anytime we’ve ever ordered has been over the phone. He said I’m owner, I bet you haven’t, basically calling me a liar. But if you look at my review below that I posted two months ago, I literally said the gentleman that picked up for our to go order over the phone was very nice etc. etc. etc. Clearly I’m not lying, and he could’ve just simply said he changed his policy rather than all this extra attitude. As an owner of a business, exemplify yourself in that manner towards your customers is a big no no. Having a bad day is one thing, but taking it out in your place of business is going to have you losing customers.****

The gentleman picking up the phone for to go orders was really nice and flexible and it made our experience that much better.
Soul food is great food to have in any city, but we’re happy to have this here in Portsmouth!!
Atmosphere inside is clean and positive vibes.
We got ribs, chicken, mac & cheese, and a side of candy yams, which literally taste like Thanksgiving all in one bite. This food really fulfilled our tastebuds. You can tell they put LOVE into this food; sweet and delicious. Every meal comes with the side, cornbread too, and it’s also very moist and delicious.
My husband had a great talk with the gentleman working, and we will definitely be back for some more menu items. If you’re looking for some late night, or even just during the day, this is your place to check out. Support local business, you won’t regret it!!

So my husband and I just left and ordered the meatloaf, collards, and cabbage with pine apple upside down cake for dessert. My heart almost stopped when I took the first and second bites, the ABSOLUTE BEST FOOD I have had EVER. My husband said he needs to leave me and marry the owner cause the food is so good lol. I am so grateful I stopped by for the first time. The service was FAST, positive and upbeat, and I will be back.

We were in town for a family reunion and stopped by this spot after the Casino, and boy am I glad we did. The food was amazing, loved the atmosphere, and the owner was very pleasant. Also, the best part is that they waited to open in Juneteenth . We will definitely be back the next time we are in town.

THE FOOD IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Wonderfully seasoned and fresh. Everything you want in soul food. I had turkey wings, whiting, shrimp and fried salmon with pretty much every side and ALL OF IT was great. The customer service is great. Very warm, kind hearted genuine people. BUT THE FOOD!!!! They can have all my money.

Maybe it was an off day. Ordered the shrimp Mac and cheese. Got delivered pasta with some unmealted cheese instead. The turkey wings were like overcooked and dry. The cabbage was ok. I see the other reviews so I’ll try again. Not their best.

I ordered on Doordash, and was hesitant being my first time but spoke with Owner before placing order and I was comfortable. But I tell you everything is so good, I was so excited waiting on my Doordash and when they arrived I had to sample everything. I’m definitely not disappointed.. sooo flavorful. Will definitely order again and they open late OMG.. They’re for the late workers like me. Thank You Spreading the word!!!!
