Very disappointing experience. This restaurant feels like it’s trying far too hard to be cutting-edge, but unfortunately the execution doesn’t match the ambition.
The food was subpar at best and, frankly, not very appetizing. For example, I ordered a side of potato wedges that were completely dusted in an excessive amount of finely chopped parsley. The flavor was overwhelmingly strong and so overdone that the potatoes almost looked moldy due to the sheer amount of parsley on them. It made the dish difficult to eat. The Wagyu burger was just okay and certainly not memorable, and the chicken dish was extremely basic for the price point.
The wine list was also shockingly overpriced. A 6 oz glass of Josh wine was listed at $40, which felt completely unreasonable given the quality.
The overall atmosphere felt stiff and uncomfortable. Our waitress was very professional and provided excellent service, which I appreciated. However, the middle-aged gentleman at the front—who I assume was the manager—was extremely high energy in a way that felt anxious and somewhat odd, which immediately threw off the ambiance when we arrived.
When we checked into the hotel, we were told it would most likely be possible to order sushi from the lounge and have it brought to our table in the main dining room. The reason we asked about this was because it was my birthday and I specifically wanted sushi. However, my mom is allergic to seafood and there was nothing on the sushi lounge menu that felt safe from cross-contamination for her. We hoped to order sushi for me while still being able to dine together in the main restaurant.
When we asked the hostess, she abruptly said no and struggled to explain the reasoning. Later, when speaking with the gentleman I believe was the manager, we were told it would be “improper” to carry a sushi dish from one section of the same restaurant to another. The rigidity and lack of accommodation felt unnecessary, especially given the circumstances.
Overall, the restaurant feels out of place considering the mediocre food and awkward service experience. This was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I’ve had in quite some time. Even if the issues had only been with the food, I would still feel this way—but the interaction with management ultimately made the experience even worse.

Great Hamachi Crudo! This location is secluded in The Cloister and offers great Japanese cuisine in the Lounge. Our server was very attentive and we tasted some great edamame, gyoza and Hamachi. This spot compliments the other restaurants at The Cloister and is a great addition to their lineup.

Perfect option to gather with friends. Many options of fresh sushi/sashimi that were truly bite sized! . The beef skewers were flavorful and medium rare. Staff were friendly and engaging and responded seamlessly to special requests. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. This is the room for those who prefer business casual.

I was nervous because of previous reviews. The food was delicious. Service was outstanding. Kept checking in to make sure everything was ok. The extras they added , chocolates after meal, rum alcohol drink and then the takeaway cake was a wonderful touch. Very impressed with this restaurant and was glad we dined there.

The place is small and cozy and the portions are small so don’t expect to have any leftovers. But it’s for the better as you get to enjoy everything without unnecessary feeling of fullness that plagues a lot of regular restaurants.
The staff was amazing too.

The dishes themselves were artfully presented and very tasty.
Do get the Japanese beef option if offered, it’s totally worth it, the beef is authentic Japanese and not a much more common domestic Texas-Japanese breed. (Japan only exports about 300 metric tons of beef a year, very little so it’s very hard to see outside of Japan, and that’s what dictates the price).

I had the most exceptional experience here. Did you know someone on the Island makes their chocolate? Our chef was incredible. The meat was perfectly cooked, The sauces better than I have had in flavor and delivery. The wine is superb in selection. The decor is hands down some of the most beautiful atmosphere I have ever been in. If you can get in, you must have dessert! You cannot get this chocolate anywhere else.

I have NEVER experienced such horrible customer service in my entire life! Please do yourself a favor and skip this as a dining option! In a place where you should be enjoying top notch food and service, this establishment misses the mark on every level. The management (especially) along with the staff could NOT care less if you enjoy this meal. Our family has traveled around the world and our seasoned guests of Sea Island resort. This is by far the worst stay we have ever had at what is considered to be a “Luxury” resort. If you do decide to visit this property, which I DO NOT recommend, please skip this dining establishment all together!

Had a group of 12 and site in a very nice private room. Service was horribly slow, at one point we had to go ask the manager to please come take our orders. The “seafood tower” was an embarrassment in terms of quality and taste. The entrees were average at best Given all the hype, this was a huge disappointment and I would have a hard time recommending….the other restaurants at the cloister were far better

I cannot comment on the food or service of the restaurant. What I can tell you is before I arrived at the Cloister I received a rude phone call from this restaurant informing me that I would be charged some sort of fee if I canceled (must happen a lot?)and that I would have to dress appropriately ( long sleeves and jacket if a man and cocktail dress if a woman). I planned on wearing what I considered to be appropriate clothing for a dinner and assumed I would be charged a cancellation fee if I canceled ( again must happen a lot) but I am unaccompanied to being treated in this fashion by wait staff. I would remind this restaurant ( that serves some sort of new age Southern food ) that Southern culture is never rude or condescending to its guests. My grandmother tried to set a standard of appearance for her quests but would never have considering demeaning one for his/her clothing choices ( and she didn’t charge resort fees) Makes me wonder what would happen if I decided to wear the cocktail dress? And how do they know if you are wearing long sleeves under a coat? Obviously they are much concerned about these issues than the quality of the food.
