Ever since the Bagel Baker Deli took over the Route 58 location, we have wanted to try it out. Now that we’ve tried it, we will definitely be back! We had no idea they were open until 8 pm on Friday and Saturday, and our meal there was a highlight of a beautiful day. My husband had the pastrami and corned beef Rueben platter. I didn’t get a photo, but the sandwich was served open-faced with sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and homemade Russian dressing. The sandwich was piled high and we ended up bringing half of it home (which is not common for my husband). I had the whitefish salad on grilled sourdough with lettuce and tomato as recommended by our server. The sandwich was perfect. The saltiness of the whitefish was perfectly balanced with the fresh, crispy lettuce and fresh tomato. I look forward to finishing it tomorrow! We also got the Rueben egg rolls and French fries which were both amazing. We took home two slices of cheesecake for later (I already sampled mine and it is excellent—creamy and not too sweet). We can’t wait to go back again and we will recommend this place to everyone we know in the area.

Anyone who was a fan of Route 58 Deli has absolutely got to try George & Sams!!! Many of the same items on the menu, but with surprising extras, like Knishes, Latkes, and more. The Latkes are amazing. We so enjoyed our first try we came back with friends and again with family.

We spoke with Sam about hosting our skeptics group for a dinner, and he was amazingly accommodating. We expected about 15 people but only had 9. They had enough seats set up for 15-20 people (I did tell them we wouldn’t need the 2nd table about 1/2 hour after we arrived).

I did not catch our waitresses name (Joanne? Jan?) but she was WONDERFUL. She handled us all with grace, understanding, and good conversation!

The food was hot, delicious, and timely. We will absolutely come back!

My only complaint/comment is that my husband loves poached eggs and hash, but was told they do not do poached eggs.

Thank you George & Sam for carrying on the legacy of Route 58 with additions that only add to the experience.

The food was EXCELLENT, good portions & the staff was friendly. I had the Ruben Fries …. The thousand Island dressing: yum, yum, yummmmy. We also tried their Onion rings, the pastrami egg rolls & My hubby and our friend both got the Pastrami sandwiches. So good, that we promised the owner and staff that we would be frequent diners. Sorry no pic of the Ruben egg rolls .. party of three scarfed them down before taking phots. 🙂

My daughter suggested the deli since her and her boyfriend usually go to The Bagel Baker, and the owner George had been telling them to visit.

I am not a breakfast person, so I ordered the disco fries. Right off the bat, they were not hot, just warm. My aunt ordered the lox spread and said it was just OK. My daughter had 1/2 soup 1/2 sandwich (matzoball & corned beef/pastrami). The soup looked really good! I couldn’t try it as she was not feeling well. The sandwich did look good as well, but a little small for the price. Her boyfriend had the BB on Broadway sandwich (not pictured), which he gets every time they go to The Bagel Baker. We also order potato pancakes … they are too thick, resemble a hash brown, and lack flavor.

Service was subpar, but everything came out correct, so that was a plus!

What a gem! We found this fantastic place by accident because many places can get tucked away in this area. The food is excellent, homemade and of great quality. The gal that took care of us was attentive and SMILING, everything was clean and the environment was peaceful.
There is breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. ( only open for dinner on the weekend). My child kids meal was legit, she had chicken tenders and it was not Dino-nuggets tossed together, it was a quality made portion of real food.

I happened to meet 2 owners while there, genuine, happy, humble people; this was a breath of fresh air.

It’s unfortunate it’s not more visible on Google Maps, as you really need to zoom in seeking it out, so it may be overlooked when looking for places to eat in the area.
Worth swinging by and checking it out; would love to see this place succeed, I think they said they’ve been open just over a year.

My only critique is I wish they had homemade ranch but that’s just because I’m a ranch snoot.

My food was ready in less than 10 minutes. Great portions and soooo good. I had the combo with coleslaw on the side. The staff were friendly and inviting. I will definitely be RETURNING!

Sitting down, the first thing I see is a waitress coughing into her hand. I wanted to leave immediately. Thank God she didn’t wait on us. I mentioned it to our waitress and she said that she was “finished with her shift.” I watched her for the next 30 minutes touching everything in the deli!! The meal itself was good, half the size of The Route 58, not as good, but acceptable. The fries were good and our waitress was nice. The place itself lacks personality, the horrible plain white walls, plain booths and no music. Hope someone improves the atmosphere. We expected a little more for the price of our lunch. Not sure if we will return.

I’m a New Jersey native with a taste for pastrami in Virginia Beach. I googled it and found this place. The taste was good, fresh and tender. But for an average size sandwich $18.50 is expensive as New York City.
