We came during lunch, I didn’t know what to expect. I need to say the description of a contemporary American grill & bar is accurate, we ordered 4 dishes.
Marinated Steak Tacos
Prime Burger
Mac and Cheese
Lobster Ravioli with Shrimp
We didn’t have any appetizers and I’m glad we didn’t, we shared all the dishes and it was more than enough food for all of us. Honestly I could have eaten more just because it was so delicious, but I didn’t, because I shouldn’t, will power!
I emphasise the portions are appropriate and the prices were decent and the best part was the taste, every dish was perfect, I hope the rest of the menu is just as good. The atmosphere is delicate, i love this style of restaurant, it might be considered old, but to me it’s classic and has a sophisticated charm.
Our waiter was very cool, a good guy, accometating and polite. Restrooms were clean and the food came out quickly. However I can’t speak how it will be for the dinner rush. When we came during lunch, it was not so busy, so maybe we came at the best time. I’ll probably return for dinner and update my review after I experience it. Looking forward to coming back!
Since it was getting late and we were hungry, we didn’t order any appetizers; we went straight for the meal. While we waited for our meal, we snacked on the house pretzels and mustard that they brought to the table. They were really good, and since we were starving, they hit the spot.
As an entree, Lahna ordered the steak and shrimp. The entree consists of skirt steak, coconut shrimp and mashed potatoes. Lahna enjoyed her dinner. I tried one of the shrimp and it seemed a little dry to me.
I ordered the “fancy skirt” which is the Grillfire marinated skirt steak topped with balsamic grilled onions and goat cheese over spinach served with a side of creamed spinach. Why they would serve a dish with spinach and creamed spinach was a mystery to me. The balsamic grilled onions seemed to be bitter from the balsamic vinegar and the whole dish was drizzled with even more balsamic glaze. I could barely taste the steak from all the balsamic.
The last time I went to Grillfire was about 5 years ago and I remember it being amazing. This time around, it seemed like another corporate restaurant trying to keep up with the trends and the ever-growing local foodie scene that is crushing the big named establishments. Our food wasn’t horrible but I can cook a better skirt steak on my grill. The service wasn’t horrible but I could tell our waitress wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. I don’t know how involved George Martin is with this restaurant, but I know that George’s Martin’s Strip Steak in Great River blows away George Martin’s Grillfire.
