I walked in while being on a work trip in the area – the owners were so welcoming and made me feel at home! I can’t find pigs feet ANYWHERE where I live, so this was such a treat! Big helpings and very delicious!!! What a southern specialty with the food and hospitality

I go to Genuine Flava often, I try other places in Sumter but find myself going back. So far I have had several different items and pleased with everything. Love chatting with them everytime I go in. Usually visit after normal lunch time when its slower. Just realized I havent been in a few weeks, guess I know where I am going to lunch today!

Every now and then you come across a restaurant that just hits different. This is one of those hidden gems. Stopped because I was in town for work and it was on the way, notice the high reviews. The reviews are warranted. The food was fantastic, reminded me very much of a cooked at home meal. Nothing was overly sweet or overly salty, my fried chicken was cooked to perfection.
The collard greens were tasty, the mac and cheese was delicious, the candied yams for a treat, and the cornbread was perfect.
If I’m in town again, I will absolutely stop by this delectable eatery.

Old school Southern food joint. The way it used to be and the way it should stay. Hole in the wall place off the beaten path in Sumter. Food was awesome, fresh and definitely authentic Southern. 3 people, got 3 meals and I tasted them all and all were fantastic. Will be going for oxtails on Thursday. Large portions but 3 people was $50. A smidge pricey but worth it once in a while. Everyone there was incredibly friendly, another Southern trait that’s slowly fading in many places. On a side note, stop all the construction and moving outsiders in or this “feel” will become extinct.
Buy local and keep these places open! Prices are getting up there for a stop by for lunch situation so -1 ⭐. Everything else was excellent!

Visited today from Tampa, FL, and the food was absolutely delicious. Seasoned to perfection, and the meat was falling off the bone. The butter beans and okra, and red kool-aid….Child, please! The staff was great, and Joe made the experience phenomenal. Highly recommended!

Just as in the name, the food and service was genuine and great. Don’t judge a book by its cover, we enjoyed our meals and the conversation. High praises for the fried or smothered pork chops and butter beans! Definitely worth a visit for some food to touch your soul.

On this rainy Wednesday I found myself at Genuine Flava. As I walked into this restaurant I was reminded of a time where fresh home cooked food was good. The moment I walked into this restaurant I was welcomed like family. Even a customer who was leaving as I walked into the restaurant was kind. This was a relatively small restaurant with a few tables and a counter to sit at while you wait for your food. The saying that “cleanliness is next to godliness” is right on point at this restaurant. So, with confidence, I placed my order from the hand written menu that was easily seen from the floor. Everyday there is something different with a wide variety of options to choose from. Today I ordered a fried chicken dinner with rice and gravy and black eyed peas on top and the best oven baked macaroni and cheese I ever had on the side. The sweet iced tea and cornbread was excellent as well. While waiting on my order I spoke with Parker who worked the register. We spoke about the community, the restaurant and some about my travels. A few minutes passed by and then the nice lady who took my order brought out my food with the same level of kindness as she first greeted me with. Genuine Flava is good because they take the time to know their customers and they provide good quality food for the soul. That’s the way you run a business.
