I’m not sure if this waitress has had a bad day or what but I came in the afternoon to have a meal and all I saw this waitress do was besides serving our food, she suddenly argued with a staff (or manager it seems). I’m not sure what they were arguing about as it was in Chinese but it’s not right for her to yell at him. Then she suddenly gone into a rant talking to the sushi chefs. I don’t usually mind peoples business but that was worth reviewing about as it’s not how you treat your staff. I bet she’ll do the same with the customers.

I live in Houston, TX, But every time I visit my parents in Boston, I always insist on going to Genki-Ya at least once. They have a very extensive maki roll menu, especially for vegetarians!!!!! Excellent sushi spot for vegetarians. Also extremely reasonably priced, and great lunch specials!!!

Genki Ya?
Genki- No!
A cautionary tale!
Genki Ya Brookline was one of my favorite places to get sushi. Tonight, a group of us went there for dinner. The nigiri plates smelled old, smelled like bad fish, as did the specialty rolls! After a couple of bites I was completely grossed out.
I always keep a pack of Cipro at home for emergencies. It will come in handy tonight! What a shame! I’ll never go there again!

A simple yet solid everyday to casual date sushi place. For a good price, you can enjoy a fairly decent meal with sashimi (premium raw fish) and mouth-watering specialty rolls. The environment is relaxing yet still proper, and the hostess is personable yet attentive.
Their Volcano Roll has become my boyfriend’s favorite dish here for its giant serving size, variety of ingredients, and deliciousness.
I vote this place for a weekday/Friday dinner with an intimate, peaceful dinner with your close friends/loved ones.

Hidden gem for sashimi!
Genki Ya is pretty unassuming on the outside. It is equally unassuming within. Staff are friendly, but it looks like most sushi places you may have been to around Boston. However, one should only judge sushi on the quality of the fish and this is where Genki Ya shines. Their sashimi is some of the most tasty and freshest that I have tried in Boston–at any price point. The fact that they are relatively inexpensive is a bonus. Maki rolls are mostly of the standard variety, but are well made, but some of their special makis will surprise you. However, I always go for the fish. Highly recommended for a pleasant surprise.

I’d say it’s pretty average all around. The rice is soft. The fish tasted pretty normal. I got the Yaki udon which was in my opinion not that good. I probably wouldn’t come back, but it was a warm and cozy place. I thought the prices were fairly priced as well so a lot of good to come.

My favorite place for delicious sushi, sashimi and special rolls. The presentation is impeccable, even when packaged to go. Everything is made with fresh ingredients and they have some very creative rolls I haven’t seen at other places. I’m a big fan of spicy scallop roll, creative, interestingly refreshing and delightfully light.
