My brother and I visited the Genesee Brew House recently. It was a pilgrimage of sorts in honor of our father, who was a big fan of Genesee Cream Ale. The food and service were excellent. We both had the Dog Plate and it was extremely tasty. From our flight of beers we raised a glass of Cream Ale to the old man and tried the 12 Horse, Citrus, and Vanilla Porter which were all very good. This place also offers tours and had one of the largest gift shops I’ve ever been in. It offered souvenirs of all kinds at reasonable prices. On top of everything else it has a rooftop terrace with unobstructed views of High Falls. Highly recommend!

This is a Rochester gem! Absolutely LOVED the experience and wanted more!
The venue itself is absolutely fantastic. Historic building in the heart of downtown WITH PLENTY OF ADJACENT PARKING!!! What a way to live!!??
I really wish we’d come much earlier so we could have toured the facility. I’m sure it’s a great tour. So many impressive historical displays around the facility and the place is clearly still a working brewery. So cool!
Then the flight showed up! The 12 Horse Ale, Scotch Ale, and Vanilla Porter were such pleasant surprises! I mean, I came in knowing what Genny, Genny Light, and Cream Ale are. They’re solid regional beers. No one’s going searching for them, but they’re good. I’ve grown accustomed to anticipating the Ruby Red releases in the warm months, but I had no idea that Genny had this kind of depth.
And finally, the wings! I’m no Buffalo Wing expert, but I’ve had my share and I know what’s good. These wings absolutely meet the standard for Western NY. The sauce (mild with a side of hot) was brilliant and absolutely reminiscent of the old school Anchor Bar and Duff’s sauce. The real deal.
Bar service and greetings by staff in the gift shop were so welcoming! We loved our experience and I’m pretty sure we’ll be back!
Thanks for making a good night even better!

A friend recommended Genesee Brew House after I mentioned wanting to check out downtown Rochester. We ordered the mushroom burger and the Spaetzle Mac & Cheese. Maybe my expectations were a bit high because it came so highly recommended, but overall, I was disappointed.
The burger was overcooked, and for $17 I was surprised it came with chips instead of fries. You can substitute fresh fries, but it costs an extra $3, which feels a bit much. The mac & cheese had good cheese flavor, but it was so heavy and rich that it was hard to finish — it tasted more like something reheated in a microwave than freshly made.
The service was also just average — not terrible, but not particularly friendly or attentive either. The view from the place is nice, but for the food quality, service, and price, I don’t think it’s worth it. If I go back, I’ll probably try something else on the menu.

Our waiter gave us our drinks then gave us time to look at the menu. Then a large family gets seated and gives them their drinks. I always put my menu down so the waiter doesn’t think I’m still trying to decide. 13 minutes go by and he goes over to the large family table and takes their orders. I was in disbelief, we’ve been waiting to place our orders before they got seated. So he finally walks towards us and I’m thinking he’s going to take our orders now. Nope. He just gets to our table looks at my husband and makes a hard right turn to the outside tables. Now, I’m pissed. I go up to the hostess and tell her what happened. She was surprised but said she’d come take our orders. Our waiter sees her at our table starting to take our order and he comes right over. He didn’t say anything. Our orders were placed and came out shortly after. The food was amazing. We got the Poutine which was seasoned just right. Other places make it too salty. We each ordered a plate. The fries were really good and the mac salad was probably the best I’ve had at any other place. It actually had some flavor to it! We’ll definitely be back.

Genesee Brew House is a staple. The roots of it’s many beers grow deep in the City of Rochester and represents so much of this regions characterand community. Their beer is always top notch, the food is never disappointing, the staff is always knowledgeable about everythingon the menu, and the lower level store is a destinationof its own. The many events hosted here are always fun, and the views of the Genesee River are spectacular.
Boy, could I go for a Genny….

I was visiting on a business trip from Texas. The venue is great. Get a reservation to sit on the balcony and see the waterfall. We tried a few different beers and they were all good. Food was okay but rather typical. Beer was the focus. Enjoy

The Genesee Brew House regularly appears on online lists of the best places to eat in Rochester and for good reason. The food and drinks are absolutely delicious and the service is very friendly. Prices are reasonable. The restaurant has amazing views of High Falls and downtown which makes for a very nice dining experience.

Great view from this cute pub. Large space but divided into smaller rooms so it feels more cozy. We sat in the heated patio and it was lovely. Attentive service and good food too. And of course, a variety of Genesee beers.
