If you’re on Laurel Street, Gelataio is a must-visit for artisanal treats! We absolutely love their chocolate and hazelnut-crusted mini gelato cones—they are simply delicious and perfectly portioned. They always have such a unique rotation of gelato and sorbetto flavors, though I can rarely resist their pistachio flavor; it’s my go-to every single time. It’s the perfect spot for a high-quality, guilt-free dessert in San Carlos!

Nice gelato place. Great ambience, and friendly staff. The gelatin was nice and dense, but the flavors (pistachio, double chocolate) could have been a bit stronger. The piccolino was awesome – bite sized waffle cone, ice cream and chocolate.

This ice cream shop is a delight – from creamy ice cream on sticks to the choice to pick two flavors even in a small cup. They hand you a waffle coated in your choice of dark or milk chocolate. The salted caramel was really tasty, and the milk cans scattered around as décor gave the place such a quaint, old-time charm.

While the “no tasting” policy is a bit of a drawback (1 less star because of that) – it’s always nice to sample before committing – the quality of the gelato more than makes up for it.
The California pistachio is rightfully popular, but I’d also highly recommend the rich hazelnut and the distinctive liberica coffee. The option to add chocolate drizzle (milk or dark) and toppings like wafers is a nice touch. You can get 1-2 scoops for the same price and even more scoops if you’d like, served in your choice of cup or cone. They also offer pints to take home, which is a great idea.
The shop itself is small and was quite busy on a weekend night, but the quality of the product shines through. Despite the lack of tastings, the overall experience was excellent and the staff was very nice, earning a solid four stars.

All of the flavors seem absolutely delicious! We tried the chocolate chip flavor and the Nutella one. They added a delicious dark chocolate sprinkle on top and also a waffle wafer cookie. They also have ice cream bars and mini ice cream cones that you can buy as well.

I liked the pistachio and hazelnut ice cream, though the double chocolate was just okay. I appreciated that you could choose two flavors with a small cup and three with a medium size. They also offer a free waffle coated in your choice of dark or milk chocolate from the fountain, which is a nice touch. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.

Absolutely love this gem! Their pistachio flavor is out of the world. And love their waffle cones too. Other good flavors include chocolate, hazelnut, etc.
They are not doing samples which is a bummer. They have limited seating if you are looking to eat there.

Gelataio has an array of wonderful flavors which gives me an excuse to visit often with different combinations. This time we ordered Hazelnuts, Amarena Cherry, Stracciatella, and Rose Lychee Raspberry. My favorite is still the Italian Hallmark: Stracciatella. Refreshing, light with just a hint of chocolate melting in your mouth.

What a great find! Great choices of flavors and the chocolate fountains add a nice touch. Our favorites include the California Pistachio, Espresso Coffee and Apple Cinnamon Crumble. Definitely a place to visit when your in San Carlos.
