We traveled to Lenox for part of our summer vacation for the last 20 years and we were looking for a jazz act in the area. We missed out the previous evening due to a dinner engagement at Alta. However, we were told that the Gateway had live music and we were rewarded with a vocalist with piano accompaniment doing a set of standards. Since we did not have reservations, we landed a hi top in the bar area. The traditional decor added to the overall aesthetic. Ashley, the bartender, took our drink orders, french manhattan and gin prosecco concoction. They were perfectly displayed, mixed and served. The special I ordered was delicious with a little heat. Meaty more the soupy. The salmon was also satisfying. Ashley was humorously engaging, which added to our overall experience. Although this was our first Gateway experience, it will not be our last and we will make it a regular stop when we revisit the Berkshires!

We came for dinner on a Thursday evening. To our surprise we were the only guests! The next surprise was the live music: a piano player of philharmonic quality!! Karim played during our entire visit, with mastery of everything from the Beatles Yesterday, Frankie’s New York New York, to Beethoven’s Pour Elise and Moonlight Sonata – all with depth and interpretation to match a concert performance. As regular concert goers, my wife and I were blown away! What a trea!. – Which brings me to the service: the sous-vide tartare and jalapeño-corn fritters were remarkably light and a flavor explosion. Likewise the Maitake mushroom dish. And the Gumbo absolutely hit the spot. The cocktails were delicious, not to mention an exceptional blue cheese washed gin concoction that was a real upgrade on a dry martini. – long story short: for an excellent dinner with top of the line live music, the Gateways in Lenox is a sure bet (be sure to check if Karim is playing). Never mind the uninspiring “Dine and Drink” name….

Lovely, comforting country ambience with a slightly upscale vibe. The restaurant is part of the Inn, though it takes reservations. There is some outdoor seating available, weather permitting, and and a spacious front yard for “porching”.

It has a parking lot but is also on a main street in Stockbridge.

Bread and dessert course were great and the menu had some nice options for main course.
