Went out to eat with my older sister, it was just us but I think that was just the time. The food was SO delicious and the staff was very friendly and polite, the entire place was very fancy and calm. Would definitely eat here again and recommend it!!

Out of all the Indian restaurants I’ve eaten in Nanaimo this one clearly misses the mark !

We had a quick late lunch here despite being warned by a few friends of their underwhelming experiences

But I’m a firm believer in second chances and here I was taking a chance on a restaurant.

The biryani reminded me of a take on tehri and left a lot to be desired !
They do not usually serve Raita with it so that was a bummer
But the major let down was the butter chicken !!
It looked unappetizing and had a weird aftertaste
We were starving and tried to finish it but struggled all through!

Overall a pass for me ! I really hope they do better because the ambience is actually quite nice !!

The atmosphere is somehow good and most of the time its not crowded.

On a Monday evening it was just the 7 of us and you might enjoy the exclusivity most of the time!

Whole restaurant is served by 1 waiter and be ready for more than average food in general.

The best Indian cuisine on the island! Amazing flavour and great ambiance in this hidden gem. We loved the samosas, pakora, butter chicken (special recipe), and lamb vindaloo. Make sure to order the frozen mango cream desert with pistachios and almonds. The owner was so kind to us. We will definitely be back!

Shout Out to Gateway To India! Wow!!!! We just had the BEST experience! By far the absolute best Indian food I have ever had. The sweetest woman (also the owner), Sandy was absolutely wonderful and so welcoming.
We had so many courses of every different dish and I can’t even explain how amazing everything was! NOTE: I am gluten free and I was able to have basically everything except the naan but she brought me a special gluten free naan.
This family who owns Gateway to Indian are local to Nanaimo and amazing people!

It was a favorable experience. I liked the food overall. We tend to order on the milder side so kitchen had to take things down a notch. I found the prices to be reasonable.

Wow, what a nice restaurant. It’s larger than it looks from the outsize, and quite nice décor.
A friendly woman greeted us, and had us seated within a few minutes.
The food is so good. I tried a potato naan, and it tasted like a vege samosa to me.

Another of those hidden gems around Nanaimo.
This place was recommended by a notorious “foodie” acquaintance as having great Indian food and it did not disappoint, HOWEVER…compared to another Indian food restaurant, (not too far away) and this may not be fair, I could only rate it 3 stars.
The service was a bit disorganized as our server couldn’t find the bottle of wine she recommended, (TWICE!)
Our server changed part way through our evening and then changed back again, making it confusing as to who we were dealing with.
We ordered a large rice and several dishes thinking that it would be enough to share between 4 people but the portions were probably smaller than individual size!
Service was a bit slow and chaotic but we were visiting with family from out-of-town so that didn’t matter so much but we all left still hungry.
The food was good (as good as that other Indian restaurant) but there’s much better value and much more efficient and friendly service available for the same price elsewhere.
Sorry but we likely won’t be back.

…a rather unassuming building exterior but a nicely appointed and tastefully decorated interior. Our group of five had a very positive dining experience with excellent service. We ordered a variety of dishes which we shared and everyone was thoroughly satisfied; thank you.

Was overall disappointed with quality and taste. Paid a lot for takeout, naan was okay but over or undercooked. Chicken in the butter chicken was very strange. It was shredded into tiny gristly pieces, and tasted weird. Sauce didn’t taste or look like butter chicken. Samosas were very doughy and reminded me of store bought, and didn’t have good chutney pairing on the side, very underwhelming. Honestly only tried it based off ratings and have had a much better experience at places that are rated lower.
