I had a very disturbing experience at this bar and feel it’s important to share what happened.
As the bar was closing, the owner began asking people to leave. While doing so, he placed his hands on my friend, which was unnecessary. My friend politely and calmly said that we were leaving and asked him not to touch him.
That simple request is what caused the situation to escalate. The owner immediately became aggressive, yelling at my friend, using homophobic slurs (including the f-word), and making threats toward our group. The behavior was shocking, hateful, and made us feel unsafe.
No customer should be physically touched, verbally abused, or threatened especially for respectfully setting a boundary. This was disgusting, unprofessional behavior, and I will not be returning. I strongly caution others before coming here.

I had a lot of fun at gateway, I just moved to Florida. But I did get a little disrespectful to one of the bartenders that works there, I definitely am sorry to her an the staff. I will not be returning though, I just don’t want to cross any boundaries. Thanks gateway❤️❤️

Disgusting experience. A staff member used a homophobic slur toward my friend, which is completely unacceptable and says everything about the culture of this place. On top of that, the business itself was dirty and gross, matching the lack of professionalism we encountered. I would strongly recommend taking your money elsewhere.

We been multiple times and while the atmosphere is pleasant, the service you never know what you are going to get. I was there last weekend and enjoyed myself so we thought we would give it another try this weekend. However the other night four bartenders behind the bar and we still had to wait way too long for a drink because they were too busy socializing amongst themselves. Once we received service the girl did not know how to make my girl friends drink properly. We thought we would give it another try last night again being close to home late night. Had the same problem. Place has potential and we were happy to have a late night bar in Gulfgate that is clean and that I can take my girl friend for a nice cocktail. But the environment and staff you never know what you’re going to get. I hope it gets better help. We don’t need another bar like this in Gulfgate. I tried a few too many times to keep trying.

I’ve always had a great experience at this bar — the vibe is solid and the bartenders are generally friendly and attentive.
That said, tonight (Friday, mid-July), I had a disappointing encounter with one of them — a woman wearing glasses. She asked for my ID, which is totally fine, but insisted it was expired when it clearly wasn’t. When I calmly pointed that out, she tossed the ID back at me without a word and refused to serve me. I had to ask another bartender to get my drink, which thankfully she did with no issue and her usual professionalism.
Everyone else on staff was great, as usual. But that interaction really stood out — uncalled for and out of line with the service I’ve come to expect here.
