Cute little restaurant that was decently busy for dinner time on a Saturday. The bar area has live music every Saturday night which is awesome. The menu was diverse and I was tempted to order everything. We ordered the calamari, wings and KFC Bao buns for apps. The bao buns were fine but not the best I’ve had. The calamari was probably my favorite appetizer. For mains the table got Mac and cheese, lobster roll and the Philly roll. Everyone loved their meals. The Mac and cheese plate was huge. Curious to come back and try some other things off the menu. The vibe is what gave it the best rating.

The appetizers were delicious. Wings, Brussels sprouts, calamari, and chicken bites. My prime rib dip sandwich was okay sort of dry but the bread was nice to dip in the jus.

The food is ok. The service is awful. Slow and they just don’t pay attention to any sort of details. We were seated at the table and water glasses were missing. The waitress asks how many we need – I am thinking one per person sounds about right. The waitress disappeared and never checked on us after dropping off the food. We would have ordered additional drinks, but there was no one to take the order (the main dying room was at ~10% capacity). We then ordered a dessert that we were going to split. There were 5 of us and she brings 3 spoons – we asked for more spoons – once again the response was how many do you need. Also, I believe there was a manager walking around and it would have taken 15 seconds to check on the table and ask if everything was ok, but they never asked or came by.

This is a great place. We went for dinner and LOVED IT! It is great for kids, and our server and the staff were so kind to go out of the way for me to put on the Masters from their TVs. The food was amazing, with a little peace symbol charred into my bun. And the dessert was excellent. Ice cream and cotton candy, WOO! This restaurant is amazing and you should definitely visit.

Whoever the host was today was terrible. He was a Latino man who wouldn’t even look my friend in the eye nor did he welcome her in. Please help him understand that diverse people come to restaurants like yours. We both left because I wouldn’t sit in a restaurant whose host mistreats and ignores people because they are not the ‘right’ sort of clientele. By the way, just so you know who I’m talking about, hr mentioned that you usually have a hostess but she wasn’t in today.

Think they had an issue in the kitchen that night. Food was not what it usually is.

I have been going to Gates since I can remember. I have lived in New Canaan since 1977. Unfortunately tonight was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had. The service was absolutely horrendous From the moment I walked in. Unfriendly host, requested bar seating was ushered to the main dining room. Took 45 minutes to get drinks once they were ordered. Then took an additional hour to receive entrées. I had to get up and physically get my own ketchup from the kitchen area as well as request a box to take my leftovers home. On top of that, Gates advertises that they have live music starting 9pm. The music started at 8:20. For a person that has sensitive hearing and hearing aids, that was completely unacceptable. I never write bad reviews but I had to write this one. How unfortunate. I’m afraid I will not be returning.
