This particular location doesn’t live up to the hype. It’s like if you took a beautiful thing and made it greasy and nasty. The cashiers were rude I about knocked shoulders with one of the grill persons on the way out because he was angrily entering the exit as I was exiting the exit. I do enjoy the theme but the place is straight up nasty. Then the register asked if I wanted an extra sauce and I agreed and paid for it, when there is literally a free sauce dispenser on the opposite side of the bar. There are no free refills on drinks and the total for my plate was $30. No tip added because not a single soul here deserved one. The ham and burnt ends on brioche make up a “Nooner” and it was a good sandwhich but ill-prepapred. Oh and the “Yammer Pie” was a water pre-packed mush of a pie. I’ll definitely go somewhere else next time for the “Gates” experience. Not a good first impression at all.

This place was amazing especially for a person who doesn’t really like BBQ. Ms. Lenore was so sweet and kind definitely made us feel so welcomed. Definitely will be back. Also Mr. Gates if you see this that woman deserves a raise.

Sauces were great, super kind folks, the burnt ends were the star of the show…but minced…not a typical burnt end. The ribs…not a fan…kinda dry even with sauce. Beef and bread was good. I wish there was a way to order separate portions as you like

The staff greeted us, recognized we were newcomers, and gave clear instructions and answered all of our questions. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was fun! I had a turkey sandwich and it was hot and fresh as well as the steak fries.

We just arrived from Dallas for a funeral and wanted some good food. Sorry this wasn’t the place. BBQ was cold and the sauce. My fish was cold as well and they even had nerve to bring me another piece that was cold as well. Hush puppies were raw inside and the worse I’ve ever had. The only thing I enjoyed was the sprite. Please save your money and don’t eat here.

Food was good, service was better! We failed to get the burnt end sandwich which was probably a big mistake. This place was not as good as Joes in my opinion. The employees had to be some of the best I’ve had wait on me in a good while! Expensive for the amount of food we got.

1st time here. It is a little pricey. They slice the turkey and brisket thin like deli meat. BEST ONION RINGS, EVER! Sauces are good. They know how to do spare ribs! They serve fries with everything, apperantly (no substitutions). They are good, but who needs em when ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^.

We haven’t been to Gates BBQ since before Covid. We decided to try it. The ribs were dry , tough, not much meat on them. The bread was fresh and good. The baked beans were good too. The man that picked up our dishes was friendly and welcoming. We didn’t have time to take the ribs back because we had to leave Kansas City. Gates BBQ was a big disappointment. What we paid for the ribs, they should have been fresh and tender.

My son and I travelled to Kansas City, MO stopped and ate as suggested at Gates BBQ. Whew! The place smelled like someone was smoking some ribs when we walked in the door. It wasn’t too crowded.

It’s cafeteria-style so you can see the food when you walk in. Everything looked scrumptious! I ordered the beef brisket hoagie and potato salad. My son ordered short end ribs and fries. We asked for all 3 sauces. I personally liked the sweet BBQ.

Our food was DELICIOUS! My son doesn’t like a lot of sauce and basically ate his with just the dry rub on it. I tried one of his and it was just super flavorful. I REALLY ENJOYED my brisket sandwich. It was tender, flavorful and so much meat that I had to take one half to-go. Also had the southern sweet tea. It’s just something they put in this tea that makes it taste so good!

Also wanted to mention that the staff was so nice, patient and friendly. They helped me when I was trying to figure out what to order. And a woman in the back who takes care of the customers was so gracious and helpful. They made me feel completely comfortable.

Will DEFINITELY be back next time I have to visit KC!!!! 10/10. Did not disappoint.
