EDIT: 9/24 I am changing from a 1 to a 3 star as a result of you changing your initial response to my original post.
My boyfriends parents made a reservation for all of us here for my birthday celebration and I was so excited to do a good review, but I just can’t…the service was some of the worst I have ever experienced..we were seated almost 30 minutes after our reservation time, that wasn’t a huge deal…but we didn’t get drinks until another hour..and then after we placed our food orders it was another 45 minutes before just getting our soups and salads (one of which was incorrect)..and then dinner was another 45 minutes after that..our reservation was at 6:30, we didn’t eat dinner until almost 9 pm (which is when they close)…It really killed the whole celebration vibe and everyone was cranky and hungry. The outdoor seating is plentiful, a good vibe and cute but i just cant get past the terrible service. No refills on water, drink orders were brought out incorrectly or missing, we had to remind our server several times about bringing us out bread which was received almost an hour and a half after being seated…No apologies or explanations, just a bummer. The food was okay overall though some of our dishes were overcooked and small portions for almost 40$ for my veal parm, the veggies (which we were told incorrectly) were really soggy and sad and just 2 pieces of cauliflower and one piece of brocolli on my plate :/, the fries that we ordered as an appetizer were soggy while the garlic flavor was good, not all of our plates were hot. Just really bummed about our experience here and it was far from cheap. I’ve had multiple jobs serving and know that service could be so much better than this starting with communication about wait times and apologizing and taking accountability, it really sucked. It felt like our servers could’ve cared less and that we were an inconvenience. We had eight people in our group and our bill was hundreds of dollars and I honestly just feel really terrible that my boyfriend’s parents spent their money on this negative experience. I sadly would not return here whatsoever and unfortunately would not recommend this restaurant. I wish I would’ve scrolled down through more of the reviews, as I’m seeing that there are multiple complaints or experiences being shared that were similar to ours, and reading these now I also feel a little bit saddened and frustrated with the responses from the owner some of which are pretty rude, dismissive, defensive and aggressive.

Went on Friday night at 7:30pm with a group of 6. We got Prime Rib, lasagna, & eggplant parmesan for mains. We enjoyed the sides as well- garlic mashed potatoes, roasted carrots, side salad, & Cesar salad. They offer a large wine selection. Brendan was so sweet and split up out ticket for 3 couples.

This was our first stop when coming back to Gunnison. First night we had drinks by the river and dinner inside. A few days later we had to come back, this time we sat on the patio and enjoyed another wonderful meal. From the hostess who truly made us feel welcomed with her warm and sincere personality to the professional servers; this place is wonderful. The team actually remembered us from a few days ago – which shows their intention and commitment to insure their guests are treated like family. The food has always exceptional and the drink selection is diverse. We can’t wait to come back again. Garlic Mike, you have a unique restaurant that my friends and I recommend to anyone who is in the area. Keep up the great work – see you next time.

First time in..Jessica you were lovely and we enjoyed you sharing what all the place has all year round (looking forward to it). Food was excellent! Defiantly going to be our Monday spot. Only criticism..the ratatouille sauce bled into our mustard sauce on our shrimp laurino, taking away from the flavor profile of the dish. Looking forward to more!

Great food provided with quality fast service while super busy. This was our first visit and everyone was working well in teamwork and checked all the boxes. The food was delicious and when you combine that with great service it creates a great night out. Request a reservation in advance as it is a busy restaurant with a great reputation. The best place to eat in Gunnison in my opinion. Thanks again for the wonderful experience.

What a great stop on the way to Crested Butte from Gunnison! Make sure you call in your reservation (yep, leave a message). You’ll be glad you did. The outside might surprise because it’s a small road house by the river, but inside lies a great Italian restaurant. We had the specials, which included prime rib in peeper sauce and halibut in lemon caper sauce, both cooked perfectly. They also have an outdoor bar right next to the river where you can order drinks and food in a VERY Colorado setting. This is a must-stop that I’ve missed till now with over 30 years in this state. Will dine there again!

The food was well below expectations. Dishes arrived lukewarm, poorly seasoned, and clearly not fresh. For the high prices they charge, I expected much better quality — but what we received tasted more like fast food than fine dining.
The service was equally slow. Our server . We waited far too long for drinks, to place our order, and getting simple requests like water refills or soda refills took multiple reminders.
To top it off, the overall cost was outrageous for what we received. This might have been acceptable if the food or service had been even remotely decent, but sadly, that wasn’t the case.
I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. There are far better options nearby where your money will be better spent.
