Garfrerick’s Café catered our October wedding at the Bald Rock Group Lodge up at Cheaha State Park. From the moment we were in contact with their catering director, Rachel Webb, I knew we were going to be receiving excellent service. She is one of the most detail-oriented people I have ever spoken with. I have Celiac, so finding a restaurant that could provide us with a completely gluten-free menu was really important. Rachel and I e-mailed back and forth over the course of eight months to ensure every step of the process would be perfectly planned, and it really was. Despite living in the area for a few years, my fiancé and I had never actually been into the restaurant. We had the pleasure of making reservations twice before our wedding to have a catering sample dinner. Not only were we served delicious food, but we had a great time as the atmosphere was so welcoming. All of the staff were so nice and you can tell how much they care about their restaurant. We were brought gluten-free bread as an appetizer without having to ask, both times we visited. It sounds simple, but I really appreciated that small detail. At our wedding they served meatloaf, pulled pork, sweet potato casserole, garlic mashed potatoes, French green bean salad, gluten-free rolls, cucumber tea sandwiches, pot de crème, and crème brûlée. It was beyond fantastic, and my mouth is still watering just thinking about all of it. Rachel, Jocelyn, and Chef Garfrerick were all in attendance during the catering process and because of them everything went so seamlessly. They worked with a member of my husband’s family to coordinate all the setup we had discussed prior. Jocelyn served my husband and I right at our sweetheart table, cut our cake (from another bakery), and even snapped a few candid photos with her phone right before the ceremony that we will cherish forever. Our guests very much enjoyed their meals. The staff helped take down and pack away all the food and we had highly organized leftovers for days. We believe they were an instrumental part in making our special day go as smoothly as it did.
You all have a beautiful restaurant and an amazing staff. We wish you all the best and we can’t wait to return just for dinner! Thank you so much for everything! – M + A

I ordered the shrimp and grits. I was born and raised in the south and these grits weren’t grits at all. It was the most awful thing I have ever eaten. It tasted like mashed corn. Do not recommend if you love grits like I do!!! Also ordered a salad that said it was 9 dollars but was then changed 13 dollars for it.

Great restaurant! Such a vibrant fresh mix of food for an area that does a lot of fried chains. The caprese, scallops over cream corn, and side of mac and cheese were all perfectly cooked and incredibly tasty. The peach pie was a tasty dessert as well. The service was lovely, very friendly and helpful. I love that they have mocktails. It was a little hard to get to in a small strip behind other stores but it’s worth the find. Nice simple wood and industrial feel to the rooms. Overall, one of my new favorite spots when I’m there for work.

Great sitting at the count and watching cooks. Nice relaxing atmosphere and very nice staff. Definitely be back the next time we are in town. Nice beer & wine selection. Nicest restaurant we have been to in Alabama in the few years we have been coming here. Had venison and grouper.

Sit at the chef’s Hightop bar and your own personal cooking show. You’ll be treated to delicious goodness and super friendly staff. It’s a fresh restaurant. Lots and lots of fresh fruits and vegetables paired with fresh proteins, creative herb and spice use. It’ll make you come back for more.

10/10 experience for catering our wedding! From day 1, Rachel was AMAZING at helping us plan the catering for our wedding. the food tasting was amazing and Rachel had answers to every single one of our questions. She was so patient working with us and figuring out the dynamics of a larger backyard wedding. Rachel thought of EVERYTHING and I kept telling her she could truly be a wedding planner! Rachel made the planning seamless and the food at our wedding was a big hit. Everyone LOVED Garfrericks! We are so happy with the way everything worked out. We have absolutely zero complaints with Garfrericks and Rachel. AMAZING EXPERIENCE!

Want to know the best kept secret in Oxford? Garfrerick’s! My husband and I had contemplated eating here in the past, but it looked closed last time we drove by the restaurant. We gave it a go today and we weren’t disappointed. Our waitress brought out the best appetizer bread. It was so soft and I ate more than my share. I ordered the pasta puttanesca and my husband ordered the shrimp and grits. This place knows how to cook shrimp. They had the right amount of bite. Oh and the grits! Thick and creamy. So good! I liked the pasta puttanesca. Good choice for pasta lovers. The Kalamata olives had been marinated and the capers were very good. It says it had anchovies, but I didn’t really taste them. Our waitress was wonderful. We will be back when in town again.

At 7:15 PM (the restaurant closes at 8 PM), we arrived for our 7:30 reservation for two. We were seated behind the wall, tucked into a corner at a small table for two. Within five minutes, we ordered the green salad, Chef salad, and pesto with tomato on bruschetta as appetizers.

In today’s Covid environment, our table had not been washed, and we used an alcohol wipe to clean the table, which came away grossly filthy.

At 7:35 PM, I asked if the bread was coming. I was informed it had to be baked. It arrived five minutes later.

At 7:50 PM, I spoke with the head waitress and asked why none of our food had arrived, especially salads and appetizers. I was informed that our order had not been entered into the computer until 7:44 PM. I asked for a new waitress, and the head waitress said she would take over.

At 7:55 PM, our salads and appetizer arrived. Five minutes later, our entrès arrived as we were still just bites into salads and appetizers. There was not enough room at the table to place all of the dishes, and the staff arranged to have a second small table moved alongside ours.

My wife’s green salad was nothing but various whole lettuce leaves and spinach with six pecan slices ($16). It was a challenge to eat due to lack of flavor and the size of the leaves. We do not reccomend.

My Chef’s salad ($16) was again only romaine lettuce but did have an amazing italian dressing that made it very tasty. I recommend.

Both my wife and I loved the tomato and pesto on bruschetta ($9). Different colored tomatoes were used, and it looked as good at it tasted. We recommend.

The restaurant’s appetizer selection left us wanting. The is very little offered other than salads – no mushrooms, calamari, ravioli, soup, etc.

For entrès, I ordered the halibut on coconut rice with grilled vegetables ($36). The halibut portion seemed small, but exhibited outstanding flavor, and I enjoyed everything on the plate. When finished, the proportion size was acceptable.

My wife ordered the rib eye steak with mushrooms, asparagus and fingerling potatoes. The steak was thick, large, and cooked to perfection. The mushroom sauce complemented the steak and provided a nice dip. Everything was superb.

For dessert, we ordered (I cannot remember the name) a chocolate pudding with a creamy whipping. It was fantastic, rich, and one portion is sufficient for two to share after such a succulent meal. I included a coffeeniti that complimented, but was a tad liquor-strong.

All-in-all the meal quality was excellent, but the service was off the mark. We were told that this was the waitresses’ first day on her own. I believe more training is necessary.

Many in my party ordered shrimp and grits. It was a spicy dish that we all felt lacked sausage. The grits were unidentifiable and had a weird taste. It seemed more like rice than anything. Whatever it was, it made my stomach swell and gave me serious gastrointestinal problems for several days. After such a terrible bout, I swore I’d never return. It also was too pricey for what you get. The waitress was friendly. The atmosphere was fine and the roach we saw crawling up the wall must’ve thought so too.

Took us 2 hours to get our food tonight. Party of two. That’s it. Very understaffed. The food tasted wonderful but waiting on 2 salads and 2 entrees is ridiculous. No food is THAT good.
