Delicious.
I’m honestly disappointed. I was really expecting upscale and this just fell short. I travel all over the world and as an “upscale” restaurant and can’t make a new customer and mezcalito on a full service bar is disappointing. I didn’t have a reservation yet online it showed that there were seats available but they still wanted me to sit at the bar. Regardless still got a table. I asked for a mezcalito. The hosted told me that they don’t make drink on a busy night but I got there at 4:45pm (happy hour) and I was the 4th table? Let me state that I was a party of 1. My waiter gave me his recommendation which I appreciate and took some of his advice. It made me feel unwelcome as I overheard them talk about me…. Anyhow, to keep the post as honest as possible, I ordered the following: the gumbo, shrimp and grit cakes and the oysters. The oysters were amazing although presentation could have been better. The gumbo was absolutely flavorful and the grits were fantastic. Overall, I’m not sure if I would come back. You can’t have good food and a bartender that doesn’t want to make customers a drink? When a bartender refuses to make you a drink even after I told them how to make its , that’s a red flag! Setting the tone for a new customer is super important for any business. Its definitely not about money. I was looking for the experience. I forgot to mention that the servers were amazing! They kept coming by my table every couple of minutes asking if I was ok and how the food was. 5 star to my server!
My final thoughts are, “ why have a full service bar when you cannot make customers the drinks that they want?” FYI, a mezcalito is literally a margarita just with mezcal. I walked to the Marriott hotel and that bartender made me a mezcalito yet didn’t know how to make it and still made this girl happy. Photo of a mezcalito. Maybe it’s time for new bartenders? J/s. I will try Doris metropolitan next time.
They had raw oysters for $1.00 per oyster. My wife didn’t want any but after the first round of 6, we ended up getting 6 more because she enjoyed them so much. I could have sat at the bar and just ate these all night!
For hot appetizers, we had the Wagyu arancini and the stuffed mushrooms. Both were amazing. The mushrooms had the most subtle hint of sweetness with the goat cheese and the red sauce with the arancini was a nice balance for these two dishes. We absolutely will be back to try the pork belly app in the future.
For entrees, my son ordered the gulf fish with crabmeat and my wife and I split the pork chop. Wow is all I can say about that chop. It’s huge and super juicy. We had plenty of leftovers and my son devoured the fish.
From start to finish, the service was fantastic. Paisley was one of our servers and Manny, one of the partners, was there greeting and talking with folks. Great cocktails and wine as well as chocolate pecan pie were also enjoyed.
Please check this place out, you won’t be disappointed!
The turtle soup came out piping hot in a cauldron, which was interesting. The duck had good flavor and paired well with the sweet potatoes and blueberry, but it was overcooked. The pecan pie tasted good but came out cold, which really missed the mark for what should have been a warm pie, brownie combo.
Overall, some decent flavors but the whole experience felt like an identity crisis.

The one downside to our experience was our server, Josh. His aggressive style of humor(?) did not amuse us in the slightest. Josh pressured us to overorder food and drinks all night after sharing with us that the doctor friends we were with were covering the bill. He made a comment about how he was trying to get the bill to $2000, which felt very tacky and didn’t fit the sophisticated vibe of the restaurant. Josh took the liberty of ordering a beet salad for our table (that we did not enjoy). He was also blatantly rude, barking orders at us such as “move that water” when he wanted to set food on the table. There were many instances like these; therefore, despite the amazing food, our stressful interactions with Josh ruined our overall 5-star experience.
App recs: BBQ pork belly, mushrooms veronique, Galliano baked oysters, shrimp and grits
Entree recs: Pork chop (MASSIVE), braised short ribs, blackened gulf fish
Dessert recs: Banana foster bread pudding stole the show. Chocolate brownie pecan pie was very good as well (brownie batter-like). Cheesecake was average.
