Definitely a must try, very quiet hidden on the main back street in Lake Villa, IL. This is a go to for us, never have we been disappointed. I am sure you won’t be either. From the chicken parmigiana, pizza to Alfredo it is all amazing. During special times they have a Sangria that is absolutely the bomb! Food is always delicious and the atmosphere is awesome!

Hidden in plain sight in Lake Villa, this Italian restaurant is the kind of unassuming neighborhood gem critics quietly root for. It isn’t flashy, it isn’t loud, and it doesn’t pretend to be anything other than what it is: a place that consistently serves excellent food at fair prices. In the Lakes region—where Italian options can feel uneven—this spot rises confidently to the top.
On my most recent visit, I was seated immediately at a corner table, a small but meaningful luxury in an age of hour-long waits. The dining room, typically hushed enough for actual conversation, again delivered one of its underrated pleasures: a peaceful meal without the intrusive din that plagues so many suburban restaurants. Service followed suit—friendly, attentive, and genuinely eager to help, never hovering or rushing.
The kitchen remains the star. My spaghetti with vodka sauce was outstanding—rich, balanced, and among the best renditions I’ve had anywhere in the region. Other entrées at the table echoed the same strengths: sauces with clarity and depth, pastas cooked with confident restraint, portions generous without tipping into excess. Cocktails, too, arrived promptly and properly mixed, further reinforcing the sense of a kitchen-and-bar team that takes pride in their craft.
If there is a shortfall, it lies in the ambiance. The room carries a certain charm, but the décor feels a step behind the quality of the food. A refresh of tables, finishes, and overall presentation would elevate the experience from very good to genuinely special. The warmth is there—the aesthetics simply haven’t caught up yet.
Even so, the value proposition is undeniable. For reliably excellent Italian cuisine, low noise, easy seating, earnest service, and honest pricing, this restaurant more than earns its “highly recommended” status. It is, in every meaningful way, Lake Villa’s little culinary treasure.

Wonderful place for some great Italian food! The pasta here was amazing a cooked very well! The sauce on the Vodka pasta was simply amazing and something that I will be ordering in the further again. I would highly recommend it for your first meal here. The portions are great and you’ll be bringing some home! A really good bang for your buck! If you’re thinking about coming here you should try it out. I will be coming back here in the future!

We happened to be up in this area and wanted a place for a date night. We are so glad we stopped here!

Everything we ordered was fantastic. The food was fresh and hot. The service was very personal. They don’t blare music.

Anytime we are even close to this area and it’s a question of where to go for dinner, we know the answer!

Thank you for a great experience!

I had planned a large food order months in advance, leading up to a birthday celebration I had next door at Harbor Brewing yesterday.

The staff at Galati’s was prompt, communicative, and consistently adapted to my order as the needs changed when my headcount shifted and menu adjusted as the date approached. We ended up ordering several different pizzas such as the Supreme, BLT, and a couple gluten-free options to name a few. The staff even walked it over allowing us to remain in party mode.

The food was outstanding! So fresh and flavorful. The gluten-free was too!!

Thank you Galati’s! My husband and I will be back to dine in at your restaurant soon!

I called in my order for pickup. The girl was a bit rude on the phone, even with my please and thank you’s. Once I got there, she was even more rude. Food was decent, but I probably won’t order from here again, unfortunately.

Good array of pizza and pasta choices and most entrees come with garlic bread and soup or salad as well. Chicken parmesan was tasty, along with the chicken fingers.

We were a party of 8 and there were mixed reviews about the food but overall good. Christina was very attentive, helpful and friendly. We sat outside on the patio which was nice but I find the inside cozy too. Nice neighborhood restaurant.
Just an update – I took home my leftover Campagnola and just had it for dinner tonight. It was delicious. I wish I hadn’t eaten so much of it last night. I had it with the bowtie pasta. Also, the salad and garlic bread were nice accompaniments.
