Social Profile:

Gai Noi, short for khao gai noi, is a type of short grain glutinous rice emblematic of the northern Xieng Khouang regions of Laos, where chef Ann and her family are from. Also known as ‘little chick’ due to its spotted appearance and small shape, khao niew (sticky rice) is a staple of the Lao diet and is eaten in tandem with nearly all other dishes. So important is sticky rice in Lao culture, most Laotians refer to themselves as ‘luk khao niew’, or ‘children of the sticky rice’, as sticky rice is the sustenance of the people; the central component of any meal and gathering.

Came here for the first time this weekend and my experience was amazing! I ordered the salmon skewer, calamari, and stick rice. Everything was absolutely delicious and came out extremely quick! Everything I ate and drank was extremely flavorful and hot. The server was also extremely helpful. She consistently checked in to ensure we were content and didn’t need anything else. I would definitely return. The atmosphere itself is also really beautiful. There’s a lot of plants and natural sunlight everywhere.

Had a lovely lunch at Gai Noi! The atrium and the rooftop are where it’s at for the best vibes – I recommend sitting up there if you have a chance. The atrium is mostly communal tables but we didn’t mind at all. Our food was delicious, we especially loved the cream cheese wantons with roasted jalapeno and the lemongrass chicken skewers. The only dish I wouldn’t get again is the calamari…it was 50% fried squid and 50% fried jalapeno and fried basil, so for the price I was expecting more seafood. Starfruit margarita was a unique & refreshing cocktail, definitely recommend.

What a beautiful place. The ambiance was soft but inviting. Full of natural light and plant vegetation. The food was wonderful. Flavorful, good portions, and it came out quick! They don’t take reservations so I recommend coming in for a lunch. We walked right in and ate in their covered patio dining area. Will definitely be back! Ann Ahmed has done it again

We had dinner here on Monday evening. The upstairs/outdoor dining area was full so we sat inside. As others have commented, it’s a beautiful restaurant in a nice area of Minneapolis. The server was nice, but she was very unsure of what she was doing. I asked for the fruit iced tea that was listed on the menu and she kept looking at her hand held device and said they didn’t have it. We ordered a regular iced tea and coke instead. We didn’t receive them until after we finished the appetizer of crunchy chicken wings, which were awesome at $13. We also got two orders of pad Thai at $13 each and an order of pork fried rice at $16. The pork fried rice was on an appetizer sized plate and the portion was really small for the price, definitely wouldn’t order that again. The pad Thai was good and well priced. Our bill came to $78.00 with the automatic 18% service charge. The server really struggled figuring out what she was doing so I would wait awhile to try dining here again, especially with so many other great Asian restaurants available in the city. Overall, the food was good, but I think in time, it will be better.

Glad to see a Lao restaurant among the dining options in Minneapolis. Had a wonderful lunch here. Three of us ordered several dishes to share. All were delicious! My first time to try Mok Paa–white fish with dill and lemongrass seasoned sauce wrapped in banana leaves. It was aromatic and flavorful. My favorite is the Basil Chicken Wings. The good food is worth a return visit, and the beautiful setting adds to the dining enjoyment.

The atmosphere in Gai Noi was excellent, especially the enclosed patio upstairs. It did get quite loud in there to the point it was difficult to have conversation.

Came here a few days after it opened and it was a lovely experience. The best part? The atmosphere was incredibly. Best place to go to if you love everything boho. I was told by one of the waiters that all the plants in the entire restaurant were all real which really added to a relaxed and earthy environment. I also loved how passionate the servers were. They really knew the story behind the place and spoke with a lot of enthusiasm as they told us the chefs story and made recommendations on the food and what paired well. They clearly wanted us to have the best experience possibly and everything we ate was phenomenal. The worst part? Honestly, not much to add. You do have to pay for parking outside. Since we came soon after opening, they didn’t have all the dessert options yet but that’s okay because what we did try was amazing. I can’t wait to go back and try more delicious options! The yellow curry with shrimp was amazing by the way.

Super cute place! It’s large, with multiple levels and is decorated very nice. There’s an indoor and outdoor rooftop, which is really cool. The food tastes good, but the portions should definitely be larger for the price! If you used to eat at Lemongrass, don’t expect the portions to be comparable at all. I’m hoping for a good happy hour menu.

Gai Noi was fantastic! We sat on the rooftop and it was beautiful with a pretty great view of the city. My sister got a margarita while I enjoyed a dole whip. Very refreshing! I ordered the Pad Thai which was amazing and my sister ordered to Gai Basil which I was also impressed with. I would definitely get the Gai Basil next time we come back. We also shared an order of the pork egg rolls which were delicious. The seasonings on the pork were delicious! Lastly, we ordered the mango pudding which was beautifully decorated and great tasting as well. Overall the experience was fantastic and I would definitely recommend for a summer day out! (apologies for images of our half eaten food, we were too excited)

It’s a big place. Has a nice room for private groups. It’s two levels and upstairs has a little outside eating area. Atmosphere is nice and food was good. Portions r a little smaller than I anticipated but it was still nice.
