What disappointed us the most was the service — despite a 22% service charge, our server, who had been chatting quite a lot throughout dinner, left the bill on the table at the end without saying a single word. I must say the restroom and overall atmosphere were the most impressive parts of this place.
Wagyu Carpaccio was tender and had great aioli flavoring; recommend
House made pasta can be found here 🙂
Cavatelli pasta with a cream sauce with lemon and walnuts was the perfect representation of summer pasta; light and refreshing, tasted like daylight.
Their classic Bucatini staple with the tomato sauce was ok. The noodles were good, super al dente (could afford 30+ seconds longer cooking next time), the sauce was the right ratio. As a 1 star spice girl, I would call this level 2 haha. But worth trying since it’s their menu staple.
The Wagyu Burger was alright. We ordered medium there wasn’t any pink, it was mostly well done or med well. Still tasty though. We wished the sauce or toppings had a little more acid to cut the savory of the burger and cheese and sweetness of the onion jam.
House made Tiramisu is refreshingly light like a cloud. Moussey 🙂 The flavors are very balanced between the coffee and cream. My partner eats tiramisu more than me and said easily in the top 3 he’s had.
We plan to come back and try the Autumn menu since I love fall flavors and fresh pasta.
The food took FOREVER. Normally this would be fine, but we were dining with a toddler and asked them to bring out whatever was ready. Even the bread service took more than 30 minutes. There’s nothing more stressful than a hangry toddler, when your stomach is also growling. I don’t think our last dish arrived at our table until 7pm. We politely asked the server throughout the night of they could expedite the food a bit, but it didn’t seem to make a difference. The cherry on top was the auto gratuity of 22% on the $330 bill, which explained the service speed since they were getting a generous tip regardless.
We were really disappointed, despite the food being decent. Whoever was cooking that night was VERY heavy handed on the salt…we were drinking water the entire evening when we got home. The overall experience was lacking enough to make me not want to return.
The oysters were fine, but that’s as expected.
Like others said the service was slightly slow, but nothing unbearable. Our appetizers came out in hoards and super fast. The middle of the meal slowed down, and then dessert came right on time.
Overall would come back here again. The price and hype were totally worth it.
The polenta fries truly steal the show, crispy, flavorful, and absolutely crave-worthy. The bread service was comforting and fresh, the chicory salad nicely balanced, and the espresso martini was beautifully executed with perfect foam.
Service was friendly, though our drinks did take about 25 minutes to arrive, which slowed the start of the evening a bit.
While we enjoyed many of the small plates, the rockfish and black cod both leaned a little too fish-forward for our taste, and the wine list felt more limited than expected.
Overall, a lovely spot for polenta fries, pasta, bread, and creative cocktails in a cozy setting. With a few tweaks to pacing and the entrée program, Autumn has the potential to be truly outstanding.
We started off with a steak tartare from the bar menu, and it was lovely. The meat was tender, seasoned well, and had a rich flavor that was augmented by the accompanying mustard seed.
The first course was Confit Beets, Polenta Fries, and Grilled Tombo. The beets were earthy and complex with a hint citrus and light mascarpone, and the polenta fries are a must have!
For the main course, we both had the American Wagyu filet, which was cooked to perfection (rare) with potatoes, leeks, and a delicate demi-glace.
Finally, the apple strudel came with a savory salted whipped cream, which was truly surprising, and the carrot cheesecake was rich and spicy sitting on an elegant salted caramel sauce.
On top of all this, we were served some of the best craft cocktails we have ever had, by Matthew! Vesper, Negroni, French Gimlet, excellent!
Highly recommend!
Cocktails were good but pricy.
The food was good but everything was salty. Even my salad felt salty because of its cheese.
Overall though, we had a good dinner experience until I saw the bill, which showed a 22% service charge added pre-tax!
There was a note that said 16% of it goes to the employees in the front and back of the house (ehem! That sounds like a forced tip, with no incentive for good service) and 6% goes to healthcare and other benefits.
I am sorry but I think I am not aligned with the pricing model of this business.
It’s not like the food or drinks are on a low end price point here to justify this enforcement.
I will non be going back to this place.
