The steak wasn’t seasoned well, nor the rice or noodles, vegetables were not in any sauce and not well cooked, slightly hard.I also got a sushi tray and the avocado in it was old/brown. Upping the pricing on yum yum sauce, sushi trays and the food in general when it’s not high quality, good food is so disappointing! I’ve been coming here for years and once was my favorite restaurant. Beckley doesn’t have many of those so this is heartbreaking.
The food was terrible. The steak was overcooked, the salmon looked and tasted more like chicken. I think someone lost the lid to the liquid smoke bottle over the entree, and because of that, they forgot all other seasonings.
The only upside is that the sushi was absolutely amazing.
(Edited)An aside as it has been a day…my date and I were up all night with food poisoning and are still ill.
We stopped by about 1:00 o’clock in the afternoon and there were just a few cars in the parking lot.
We went in, and the first thing we noticed was the amazing woodwork carvings of chairs, tables, and other trees.
There was also a pond with goldfish in it, which I didn’t expect.
My first impression was that this is a cool restaurant!
They seated us at the table with the grill across from a full party of people, both adults and kids.
The floor was a mess, litered with food from where the chef had dropped food while preparing their meals.
Our chief was nice, did all the little tricks, played with the fire, and then prepared our food.
The food was above average but not what I had experienced from other Japanese restaurants.
There was no free shrimp to try out, and the scramble egg that is cooked with the rice was left in large clunky pieces that I pulled to the side.
We had the Filet Mignon with rive and noodles without the vegetables, and the quantity of food was huge.
We took 2 Togo boxes home and had some for later that night, which helped offset the cost of the meal.
We both enjoyed the food, the atmosphere was very good with all the carvings, the waitress and chief were very friendly and had worked there many years.
Like I said, we were traveling through, so the stop helped the trip go smoother, we stretched our legs and got out of the car for about an hour.
The experience was fun, the food was okay but we probably would not return if we lived in the area but I’m glad we tried it out.
Food: 5 stars due to high quality shrimp, scallops, and salmon. My wife loved the chicken and daughter loved the steak. Our 6yo liked the miso soup! Also, the hibachi noodles are seasoned perfectly.
Service: 5 stars due to our hibachi chef being charismatic and fun. We were seated quickly on a saturday night with plenty of chefs available.
Atmosphere: 5 stars due to all of the ambience. Beautifully crafted wooden decorations in the main lobby, followed by Sakura painted on the wall when you walk in. Koi for sale in a pond, and plants for sale as well.
I recommend the apple sake and my lady said she enjoyed her plum wine too. You will not be disappointed in this restaurant!
