The chicken in garlic sauce is the best chicken dish I’ve ever had at any Chinese restaurant. The quality of the ingredients and the authenticity of the flavors is outstanding.
The prices are on par with nearby restaurants.
1. Fried dumplings with veggie inside (5 stars, I notice most people would like to order spring rolls but i would say fried dumplings are better)
2. Squid with pickled vegetables (4.5 stars)
3. Sauteed beef with black pepper (4 stars)
4. Fried shrimps (5 stars, crispy and juicy, a liitle bit pepper powder on the shell and might be spicy. Ask for mild or no spicy)
5. Sauteed sliced fish (5 stars, one of the best dishes in their restaurant )
6. Eggplants with garlic sauce (3.5 stars, it’s okay and the owner said there is another version and might be better)
To summarize, this is my first time to maui island and try several top rated thai restaurants on the island. To be honest, they are overrated and have bad service manner. Compared to these restaurants, definitely i will come back to Fu Lin next time i come to maui island for their food and sea-view.
I recommend:
The pan fried fish with black bean sauce (boneless, crowd pleaser, nice moist white fish) – my kids loved it especially. Server recommended.
Fried rice – house was great but any of them will have great flavor
Sweet and sour pork
The noodle dishes are delicious too.
We were a little unsure about whether to come here because it was empty when all other places were busting at the seams, but take my knowledge of this hidden gem as my little gift to you before the masses catch on. You will have peaceful, beach view, delicious meal. You won’t regret it.
Highly recommend this wonderful establishment.
We had the chicken fried rice and Mongolian beef. No pictures to this review because we were too busy eating and not a speck of food remained on our plate.
Lovely atmosphere on the patio. Food is very authentic and best part: NO MSG! In every meal!
Highly recommend choosing this as your go to Chinese restaurant when visiting Maui.
Dishes on the menu covered a lot and staff recommended the fish but we weren’t into it. Other diners seems to enjoyed it a lot.
Like usual I always go with a basic wonton soup if they have it. A good Chinese Restaurant should be have a decent wonton soup right? Zhao zi or gyoza, Garlic eggplant, stir fry beef, Singapore rice noodles, salt and pepper shrimp.
We waited over 20 mins to get the soup, a long time for something simple. Like many restaurants they used the thick wonton skin which is not not made for wonton soup. Wonton loosely means swallowing clouds so it should be lite not thick and doughy. Soup itself is completely bland. Just tasted like vegetable blanching water. It should have nice flavor broth either seafood or chicken, hint of white pepper and some crunchy greens. To my horror the filling were sliced lapchiong (cured dried Chinese sausage). Again should have lite (cloud) texture with minced pork and some shrimp. NOT scraps!
Gyoza dough were undercooked though filling tasted good. Suspecting it’s store bought…
Singapore fried noodles was still very chewy. A result of not soaking the rice noodles long enough and hardly had any curry tastes. Curry flavor is what the dish is known for.
Other dishes ordered all have wonderful fragrance when they were served but all too salty. Even though smelled great but all I can taste was salt. Everything was also too oily.
I read the other reviews about how they contracted with tour guides to “trick” tourist to pay more than the cost on the menu. If this were true it’s totally unethical. I hope it wasn’t true.
We might give then another try but not as what I would consider a good restuarant that have serviced Lahaina for many years.
