The food was genuinely very good. Everything we ordered arrived fresh, hot, and exactly as expected. Portions were generous, and the presentation showed care. The burgers were cooked properly, the fries were crisp and flavorful, and the classic Friendly’s menu items delivered that nostalgic taste the restaurant is known for. Dessert was a standout, as it usually is at Friendly’s — rich, creamy ice cream served in satisfying portions. The kitchen clearly did its job well, and there were no complaints whatsoever about the food quality.
Service during the meal itself was also positive. Our waitress was friendly and polite, took our order without issue, and checked in as needed. Because the restaurant was nearly empty, service felt attentive and personal. Drinks were handled promptly, and nothing felt rushed, even though it was close to closing time. Up until the very end, the experience was smooth and enjoyable.
Unfortunately, the visit ended on a sour note. When it came time to pay, we handed the waitress cash. She took the money, said “have a good night,” and walked away. She never mentioned returning with change, and at first we assumed she might be coming back. After waiting, it became clear that she was not returning at all. Given how quiet the restaurant was — with only one other table and a few people at the ice cream counter — it was hard to believe this was due to being busy or distracted.
This moment overshadowed what had otherwise been a very pleasant experience. The issue wasn’t about tipping or generosity; it was about clarity and professionalism. If the assumption was that the remaining cash was a tip, that should never be left unspoken. Customers shouldn’t be put in an uncomfortable position or left wondering what happened to their change, especially when everything else during the visit had gone so well.
It’s disappointing because Friendly’s is known as a family-friendly, trustworthy place where people feel comfortable bringing kids and relaxing over a meal. A simple misunderstanding or lack of communication at the end can undo an entire evening’s worth of good impressions.
Overall, Friendly’s in Plymouth has great food, a pleasant atmosphere, and the potential for consistently excellent service. However, the way the payment was handled left a negative final impression. With clearer communication and more attention to the checkout process, this location could easily provide a complete and satisfying experience from start to finish.
I was there on January 24, 2026
Service: The few staff members on duty are hardworking but clearly stretched too thin.
Food: Portions felt small for the price, especially when compared to nearby local creameries.
If you’re a parent with a kiddo who’s jonesing for something sweet, it’s a “safe” bet because kids are easily impressed by sprinkles and sugar, regardless of the portion size or price. And you’ll never have to worry about parking, a wait, or a line, because there’s nobody there. However, if you want your dollar to go further and your child to have a better experience, any of the local creameries in Plymouth are a superior choice.
Speaking as an adult with for memories of the old days and many positive experiences with local businesses that are more in touch with their customers, it lacks the energy and quality that used to make Friendly’s a destination. While there’s not anything objectively wrong here, it’s not a place I would visit again unless everything else was closed in the aftermath of a natural disaster.
Had free icecream included with the meal, which was a lively suprise.
Staff were friendly and attentive.
