Friendly’s in Plymouth, Massachusetts is a place many people associate with comfort, familiarity, and dependable food, and for the most part, this visit truly reflected that reputation. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was calm and welcoming. The restaurant was clean, well-kept, and quiet, largely because we arrived closer to closing time. At that point, there was only one other table dining and a few people at the counter enjoying ice cream, which actually made the experience feel relaxed and unhurried.
The food was genuinely very good. Everything we ordered arrived fresh, hot, and exactly as expected. Portions were generous, and the presentation showed care. The burgers were cooked properly, the fries were crisp and flavorful, and the classic Friendly’s menu items delivered that nostalgic taste the restaurant is known for. Dessert was a standout, as it usually is at Friendly’s — rich, creamy ice cream served in satisfying portions. The kitchen clearly did its job well, and there were no complaints whatsoever about the food quality.
Service during the meal itself was also positive. Our waitress was friendly and polite, took our order without issue, and checked in as needed. Because the restaurant was nearly empty, service felt attentive and personal. Drinks were handled promptly, and nothing felt rushed, even though it was close to closing time. Up until the very end, the experience was smooth and enjoyable.
Unfortunately, the visit ended on a sour note. When it came time to pay, we handed the waitress cash. She took the money, said “have a good night,” and walked away. She never mentioned returning with change, and at first we assumed she might be coming back. After waiting, it became clear that she was not returning at all. Given how quiet the restaurant was — with only one other table and a few people at the ice cream counter — it was hard to believe this was due to being busy or distracted.
This moment overshadowed what had otherwise been a very pleasant experience. The issue wasn’t about tipping or generosity; it was about clarity and professionalism. If the assumption was that the remaining cash was a tip, that should never be left unspoken. Customers shouldn’t be put in an uncomfortable position or left wondering what happened to their change, especially when everything else during the visit had gone so well.
It’s disappointing because Friendly’s is known as a family-friendly, trustworthy place where people feel comfortable bringing kids and relaxing over a meal. A simple misunderstanding or lack of communication at the end can undo an entire evening’s worth of good impressions.
Overall, Friendly’s in Plymouth has great food, a pleasant atmosphere, and the potential for consistently excellent service. However, the way the payment was handled left a negative final impression. With clearer communication and more attention to the checkout process, this location could easily provide a complete and satisfying experience from start to finish.

I was there on January 24, 2026

It was good. We ordered thr mozzarella sticks and I had the double cheeseburger which was good the fries could have been a little better but it’s all good. I’m not big on ice cream immediately after I eat but the wife and kids enjoyed their meals and ice cream as well. I also enjoyed my fresh cup of coffee to go. Service was great.

Sadly, this Friendly’s doesn’t live up to the brand’s history in Plymouth. The move from the classic downtown location hasn’t done them any favors. Despite the “new” building, the atmosphere is lackluster and the restaurant often feels deserted.

Service: The few staff members on duty are hardworking but clearly stretched too thin.

Food: Portions felt small for the price, especially when compared to nearby local creameries.

If you’re a parent with a kiddo who’s jonesing for something sweet, it’s a “safe” bet because kids are easily impressed by sprinkles and sugar, regardless of the portion size or price. And you’ll never have to worry about parking, a wait, or a line, because there’s nobody there. However, if you want your dollar to go further and your child to have a better experience, any of the local creameries in Plymouth are a superior choice.

Speaking as an adult with for memories of the old days and many positive experiences with local businesses that are more in touch with their customers, it lacks the energy and quality that used to make Friendly’s a destination. While there’s not anything objectively wrong here, it’s not a place I would visit again unless everything else was closed in the aftermath of a natural disaster.

Friendly’s once held a special place in my heart, but this location continues to disappoint. On a quiet visit with only one other table occupied, we were served half-frozen food, cold entrees, and quesadillas soaked in bitter, dirty oil—raising serious concerns about kitchen upkeep. Even the dine-in sauces came in plastic to-go cups, adding to the lackluster presentation. Nostalgia can only excuse so much; sadly, this visit was more disheartening than heartwarming.

Really hate to bring the review I had from 5 stars down to 3 but unfortunately I found plastic in the Mac and cheese. Luckily this was not served to any children as they wouldn’t have noticed it, it came up when I mixed from the bottom

Great food and tasty ice creams!!! I understand that the current situation isn’t the one to talk about wait times but we had an insane wait to simply get our ice creams served to us. We ordered our ice cream, got served our check, we paid our check and after a whole 20 minutes we got our ice cream. I repeat, I do understand staff shortage and restrictions on business operations but 20 minutes to serve ice cream from the front of the store to a table might be a little bit too much. I’d have walked to the front to go and collect it myself if not for the guidelines in place. Our attendant was super friendly and really nice to talk to. She helped with our orders and was patient enough to answer questions wrt getting a vegetarian meal option. I feel the place has a great value for money and the store decor is quintessential American diner combined with brand colors.

I dream about the chicken parm super melt that this restaurant created. They’re so good to me that even though it’s no longer on the menu I’m allowed to order as a barbecue chicken supermelt and sub and add all the ingredients needed. The waffle fries or the icing on the cake of this delicious meal. I recommend it to anyone you will not be disappointed and how delicious it is. I wish there was more of them still around everyone should try to visit them and help them out and make the servers make a lot of money.
