Ordered a mixed drink, was so bad I had to return it. Next one was also terrible so just gave up. Ordered a steak, medium. When it came out it was closer to leather and super dry. Also came out with a completely different vegetable. Waited an eternity for them to remake the steak so it would be edible, my partner had already finished his meal by the time I could even eat. It was decent enough after being remade, but definitely NOT worth the $25. The portion was also very small.
The price on the tab ended up being different than the prices listed in the menu. The clientele was also obnoxious. Was filled with bikers and older people, was not thrilled when the guy to my left coughed on my food (we sat at the bar) or when a burly biker offered to ‘steal’ my partner’s seat while he was in the bathroom. The bartenders seemed nice, but they were very bad at making drinks. Was also taken aback that they still charges me for the drink after they literally screwed up everything that could possibly be messed up.
Firstly, the accuracy of our order was severely lacking. Out of the four meals we ordered, only two were correct. Such a mistake on a busy Friday night might be understandable, but it significantly impacted our dining experience.
The quality of the food was another letdown. The burger melt, requested to be cooked medium, arrived well-done, stripping it of its juiciness and flavor. Even more distressing was the Texas toast – it was so burnt that it became inedible, forcing my mother to discard it. This isn’t the standard I expected from a restaurant with a reputation for good food.
Furthermore, the deluxe turkey sandwich was a cause for frustration. Despite specifically requesting no avocado and no cheese, as shown in our food chit, these ingredients were present. Having to scrape them off diminished the overall enjoyment and convenience of the meal.
While the other two meals were passable, they didn’t compensate for the overall lackluster experience. At Friendly Reds, where we spent $77, we expected a meal that would be a delightful end to our week. Instead, we were left with dissatisfaction and the feeling that our hard-earned money was not well spent.
******UPDATE:
After speaking with the General Manager, John, regarding our previous experience, I am updating my review. John sincerely apologized and informed me that he would be addressing the situation with his team. Additionally, he kindly sent us a gift card, showing a commitment to customer satisfaction. I appreciate his professional handling of the situation. Everyone can make mistakes, and I believe they have made a genuine effort to rectify ours. We’re definitely willing to give Friendly Reds another try.
at Windham location. Waited an hour+ for food after ordering, our drinks took awhile to be served. When I questioned the remaining wait time on our food the response was less than pleasant. When the food was finally served (sporadically) it was cold and there was no silverwear until requested. We complained, the manager came out and just shrugged his shoulders and apologized. He asked if we would like our food warmed up but we had already been there way too long, so we just ate. I thought he would have offered a discount but that never happened. Just poor service all around. It wasn’t very busy, so not sure what the problem was. I’m a Windham resident and frequently order take out without any issues. This was or first in-house breakfast experience. 1 star all around.
The waitress was pleasant, but seemed new or overwhelmed. Throughout the meal we had to kindly ask her for napkins for the apps, silverware for our meals, and salt and pepper for our food. Things that are normally there at the start.
The nachos were a great start, and the high point honestly. I love queso on nachos, as it’s not a race against time to eat them before the cheese congeals into a solid mass. Salsa was fresh and tasty with just a kick of spice.
The chicken Caesar salad was just as advertised and what you’d expect. Fresh lettuce.
The baked haddock was overcooked and rubbery as a result. It also was a little bland. But a lil S&P quickly fixed that.
The “seasoned” french fries were anything but. Not a granule of salt to be found on these limp, lifeless, bad boys.
Although the fries are fresh and made in house, you can tell they are only fried once. Anyone that makes homemade fries knows you need to fry them twice. Once at a lower temp to cook them, then again at a higher temp to get that crispy, snappy bang of a fry.
I also unfortunately found a long black hair in my order of French fries. I just removed it and carried on.
As a result they were soggy, greasy sponges, and limp. So much promise, and just a drop of the ball.
Drinks were delicious I will say! The Mai Tai was fruitier than usual, but still strong and tasty.
I’ve heard great things about Friendly Reds, but they just didn’t live up to my expectations. I will give it another shot, as I’ve heard they have some of the best home made meatballs out there. I still regret not getting the meatball sandwich.
Until next time.
