Social Profile:

Family owned and operated since 1986 Friend of a Farmer has been a pioneer in the farm-to-table movement. We’ve created a reputation for seasonally fresh and local ingredients within an atmosphere unlike anything else in New York City. To provide our guests with a warm familiar feeling found only in the countryside, we’ve carefully crafted and hand built all of the wooden columns, ceilings, floors, and fireplaces.

American country-cooking, including a popular brunch, is served in Vermont farmhouse quarters.

Hesitated a few times before organizing a dinner here due to some reviews. The food is rustic, down to earth and delicious and so so much cheese. The ribs were so tender.

Don’t know how rest of the place is laid out as we were near the entrance in a crammped nook, also felt the wait staff didn’t check on us as often due to the location.

I’ve visited 3 times. I typically have water or French press coffee. I know that’s a *low* threshold but the coffee is always brewed well, not better, very smooth, and seems to be some sort of breakfast blend because it doesn’t make me jittery. I really like that! I believe the last time I visited, I ordered whatever bottled water they had available. It feels silly to *rate* water but it was fine.

Service: 10/10
I’ve never had a reservation coming here but I always get a seat pretty easily. Whenever I’ve come in the host greets me immediately and gets me squared away. I’ve come during busier times and more chill times, the wait hasn’t been more than 10-15 mins. Also the servers are really sweet, knowledgeable, and seem to have amazing timing when it comes to checking in on how the meal is going.

Food: 9/10
Always FRESH and the hot dishes are HOT. The entire concept is farm to table so the ingredients are seasonal which will may some dishes different from season to season.

The last time I went I ordered:
Rose Club – the chicken on this sandwich was really juicy and the sandwich itself was pretty big so I saved half. The fries were really crispy on the outside and pillowy soft on the inside.

Biscuit – I wasn’t too much of a fan of the biscuit. If it was called a “roll”, I’d be completely happy with it but it just didn’t give “biscuit”.

Cornbread waffle bites topped with caviar and crème fraîche – I’ll think about this appetizer often. The cornbread waffle was delicious, crispy, the right amount of sweet and moist. The caviar was the PERFECT salty, seafood-y addition that truly is a competitor to your favorite waffle and other protein duos.

Ambiance: 8/10
I will say I’ve sat outside during the warmer seasons and inside (upstairs) during the colder ones. Outdoor dinning was perfectly fine, nothing stands out in my memory about it being exceptional or unfavorable. Dining indoors is bit cramped however I feel like it does add to a certain coziness level in the space. They also have it decorated for the seasons with a working fireplace upstairs that adds a certain life to the space.

Overall: 9/10
I love this place and I’ll return. I can always look forward to consistently good service, fresh/delicious food and a bit of a rotating menu that compliments the season. You really can’t go wrong with that.

Friend of a Farmer is one of my favorite restaurants. The ambiance is beautiful with such a cozy and welcoming atmosphere

The staff is always very kind and attentive, and I especially want to mention my server today, Terrence, who was wonderful.

My favorite dish is the Boomer Special — I always choose the French toast and sausage. It never disappoints!

I highly recommend this place for any occasion ❤️

Went here for a solo breakfast whilst in NYC. Really cosy interior, really enjoyed the design and warmth of it. The staff were very friendly and chatty, which was appreciated. I ordered the boomer special (which is a little bit of everything) with the apple pancakes and the smoked salmon as the protein – it was all delicious and very well done classic American food. Coffee was also great. Thank you

Cozy atmosphere, friendly staff and pumpkin walnut pancakes full of light fall flavor. The pumpkin flavor wasn’t overpowering the dish. It was a nice and light. I love nuts so I was glad to see all three pancakes had a generous amount of crunch. The syrup gave it a nice sweet touch without being too sweet. Loved the ambience and the staff were all very friendly as they checked to ensure all was well. I will be going back soon!

Recently went and it was a very pleasant experience. The meal started off with a complimentary cornbread with apple sauce which was excellent. The burger was top tier and so was the chicken. The servers were attentive but I did feel a little rushed to get through the meal quickly. There is outdoor seating with space heaters to keep you warm. Overall I would return.

Absolutely amazing food, service and cocktails from start to finish. Great place to go to when wanting to get into a cozy vibe. We got the Bees Knees cocktail, Crostini appetizer, then shared the Duck and Shepherds Pie for our entrees…everything was mouthwateringly delicious it was like a flavorful journey that brought joy to our souls and we all need little glimmers of joy, especially right now.

This spot is true to it’s name, serving what I like to call a farmer’s breakfast fit with meats, eggs, potatoes, and some kind of delectable carb on the side. I ordered the Boomer’s special which came with scrambled eggs, meat of choice, pancakes or waffles, plus home fries. I opted for crispy bacon and the blue berry pancakes. When I say that everything was cooked to perfection, I certainly mean it. Eggs were seasoned and tasted buttery, bacon was crisp as requested, even the blueberries in the pancakes were sweet and tender. This was well worth the $27 platter price considering this city has lower quality brunch plates for a few dollars less. I will note that extras, such as a side of the home-fries are an extra $9 for a little cup, but I suppose their profit margin is with drinks and these little side options. My partner got the chicken pot pie and it was solid, but a little on the salty side and a little overly sweet with too much rosemary in the filling. Probably wouldn’t order that again, but in general, this place seems like a well oiled machine. Service was smooth and precise, not overly personal or warm, but we got water and food in a timely manner, and they checked on us at least once. Decor is what some may consider shabby chic charming, but it was a little half-hazard and needed some editing on the second floor, namely with too many baskets crammed into the rafters, gathering some dust.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Such a cute spot! The whole place is so pretty even upstairs feels like a little farmhouse escape in the city. The service was great too. We asked our server for some suggestions and she nailed it. We shared the pancake with lemon zest and it was really good. I got the country grain bowl salad with chicken and it was super tasty and full of flavor. Satisfying!!

I’ll for sure be back and I totally recommend checking this place out. It’s a real gem!
