The menu states “Our rolls are baked fresh daily,” so imagine our surprise when one of the steak sandwiches had a spot of mold right on top of the bun. We pointed it out to the server (a young lady who was pleasant though inexperienced) who took it back to the kitchen for the bun to be replaced.
The other steak sandwich, though ordered medium, was cooked very rare. What’s more, it seemed to be completely unseasoned and, more concerningly, both smelled and tasted ‘off’. Though I’m far from being a snob and cannot recall ever declining to eat a meal at a restaurant due to fear of food quality, after the first bite I chose to leave the rest of my sandwich uneaten. I didn’t bother to ask to have it remade – by that point I wasn’t going to trust anything coming out of that kitchen, and our server was already shaken enough from the moldy bun.
We didn’t ask for a discount, nor were we offered one (same is true for refills). The poor quality of the food and overall experience were already evident to the server, so we didn’t cause a fuss. We politely paid our bill, left a regular tip, and left. Obviously, we will not be back however.
Yuck.
This restaurant is very convenient for people visiting the Oshkosh air show. A free shuttle service stops at the back gate so it’s convenient for lunch, dinner or drinks.
Our first visit, we ordered the Little John sandwich. This time, it was the French Onion Soup (not recommended), the Prime Rib Sandwich (excellent), and the roast beef sandwich. We particularly like it for lunch because the prices are very reasonable compared to the concessions at the show and the food is really good.
The only thing is that my companion ordered the Smokehouse Burger medium rare today but it arrived VERY rare!!
I had the Friars club on a croissant. I choose hot. The turkey and ham were generously stacked with bacon and Swiss as well. Mayo on the side. The croissant was not hot but the filling was. Very good and filling. I took half home. Hubby had the bacon cheeseburger. 1/2 pound burger cooked to your liking, and he enjoyed it and almost couldn’t finish.
Our server was nice and took good care of us. 2nd visit un years and good as I remembered.
Still great service and exceptional food.
