Tucked into Collins Street, Melbourne, it is where French indulgence slips into the night and stays longer than planned. Steak frites. Duck à l’orange. Champagne by the glass. Cocktails that arrive cold and leave you warmer. Everything, unapologetically, $14. The room is low lit and a little dangerous. DJs set the tempo. Glassware catches the light. Conversations lean closer. Plates are made for sharing, grazing, stealing from someone else’s side of the table. This is French dining without the etiquette lesson. No white tablecloth stiffness. No waiting for permission. Just good food, good music and the kind of energy that turns after work into after hours.

I visited for my birthday and from the moment I walked in the team made the night feel special. A handwritten birthday card on the table, effortless banter from the staff, and that rare kind of service where even on a packed night they still make time for you. It’s busy for a reason, but you never feel rushed.
The $14 concept across the menu makes it incredibly easy to keep ordering and trying things, so my biggest tip is to pace yourself. Plates come out fast but the format encourages you to order as you go, which turns the night into a bit of a tasting tour.
Trying almost everything on the menu, a few dishes stood out. The steak with the rich entrecôte sauce was easily a highlight (and thanks to a small ordering glitch we somehow ended up with two… no complaints there). The seared tuna was beautifully cooked and the Brussels sprouts were an absolute must order.
To finish, the chocolate mousse was the perfect end to the night. Light, indulgent and exactly what you want after a table full of great food.
Frenchie’s has managed to create something that feels fun, social and a little bit special all at once. It’s the kind of place you can settle into for the whole night, or just drop in for a cocktail and a plate before heading somewhere else. Either way, it’s easy to see why everyone is trying to get a table.
The meals were nice, but seemed to be over powered by lots of garlic in everything. The baguette with the salted smoked butter was delicious. We found by ordering 3 entrees, 3 mains and 3 desserts my husband and I were full. Would like to see some different options on the menu in the future.
Love the big bar in the centre of the room more space to eat
It’s also great to know exactly what you are paying for and we love the concept of share style plates. We had the Rump steak with entrecôte sauce, chicken cordon bleu meatballs, Parisian gnocchi, parmesan & truffle oil and Rainbow mini tomatoes, eggplant caviar and pine nuts. All food was well seasoned, quality of food was excellent and the cocktails were great (I had the Parisian Iced Tea, the chilli was a great touch). My husband loved the caviar “bump” from the roaming cart, good add on!
Would highly recommend if you are looking for something enjoyable, quality food, great atmosphere, excellent service and affordable. We’ll be back with friends next time.
– Brochettes de poisson à la Grenobloise (2x skewered market fish, sauce grenobloise, capers, lemon)
– Canard confit (Confit duck leg, potatoes salardaise)
– Steak (Rumsteak, entrecôte sauce)
– Poire pochée au vin (Red wine poached pear, crumble & vanilla ice cream)
Value: Serving sizes are great to share between two and the price proposition is amazing at literally $14 for everything, food and drinks.
Service/Staff: Very polite, attentive, and thoughtful. Axel our waiter/bar tender, was very helpful in making recommendations and just being an all-round great guy.
Venue: Clean, spacious, hip, not pretentious, and although it has atmospheric lighting, it is not dim and not a trip hazard.
Final Thoughts: Great place, were fantastic on their opening weekend. Would definitely recommend.
