I’ve been to French Affair in Port Hope twice, and both times were genuinely enjoyable. The food is tasty and clearly made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. I especially liked the chocolate ganache square—it was rich and satisfying, though the brownie on top seemed a little past its prime. The beignet was good—simple, sweet, and comforting. The coffee was excellent, one of the highlights for me, while the iced tea was just okay (not enough ice). Service was friendly and efficient, with no issues. That said, while the café presents itself as offering “fine French food,” the reality is more down-to-earth: it’s a cozy, neighborhood-style spot with a relaxed atmosphere and homemade-style pastries and tarts. Some items looked like they might’ve been from the day before, and the offerings are simple rather than refined or complex. The portions are generous, the atmosphere is charming (I love the flowers and decor), but it’s not fine food, or what one might expect from that term. I think the branding and name might set up expectations that don’t quite match the experience—it would benefit from leaning into the casual, local café identity rather than marketing itself as fine food. Still, it’s a great place to stop by, and I’d happily return. Solid four stars.

If you’re seeking a café experience that elevates more than just your palate, French Affaire is the place to be. From the moment you step inside, you’re transported to a charming corner of France—one where warmth, flavor, and authenticity embrace you like an old friend.
The food here doesn’t just taste good—it elevates the soul. The croissants are truly exceptional: golden, delicate, and buttery with a texture so divine, it’s as if Parisian mornings were baked right into each flaky layer. Every bite is a gentle reminder of what food can be when it’s made with passion and care.
But it’s not just the cuisine that makes French Affaire stand out—it’s the people. Owner Sarah brings a rare blend of genuine kindness and savvy salesmanship that makes each visit feel personal and unforgettable. Her love for her craft shines through in every detail. And Ricky, the ever-professional and courteous attendant, provides service with such grace and attentiveness that you feel like a VIP at every visit.
It’s a true pleasure to be able to sample authentic French flavors without having to board a plane. Whether you’re a seasoned lover of French cuisine or a curious first-timer, do yourself a favor and visit French Affaire. It’s a culinary and cultural gem, and you’ll leave feeling better than when you arrived…I know I did.

Tried a plain butter tart and it’s in a league of its own. The texture of the pastry is incredible and the filling is unique I don’t know if I’ve tasted another like it. I love butter tarts of all shapes and sizes and this was definitely one of the best I’ve had. Can’t wait to try their croissant next time.

The pain au chocolat is out of this world! The quiches have the most exquisite taste and the lemon dessert cannot be missed. Also, the frozen duck tourtiere is lean and delicious. So much to choose!
