The staff made the evening feel genuinely special, and the overall atmosphere and food quality were excellent. Everything felt polished and intentional, which made the night memorable.
The atmosphere is really neat. The house is a historic Carmel home that has been converted into a restaurant. They shared a binder with the history of the house in it and some photos.
Because the food is fresh and made to order, you will have to wait while they cook it. Everything was gorgeous and well-prepared. I got pumpkin gnocchi which was a new experience for me and every bite was amazing. There were all kinds of textures and flavors that somehow worked well. My husband got duck with pureed sweet potatoes and said he could have eaten a big bowl of them.
We got the ricotta donuts for dessert and OMG. I think we’d go back for those even if we hated all the food! Lol! The coffee ice cream was amazing. The waitress said they make it in house and it tasted so fresh.
There was unfortunately an extremely rude table of folks out on the patio with us who were unkind to the waitstaff (loudly; we overheard them and weren’t even next to them) and were exaggerating wait time for food (on an extremely busy night). If they happen to leave a negative review, I hope folks see mine and realize the staff did nothing wrong. It was a busy Friday night at a brand new fresh food restaurant, end of story. I strongly recommend this restaurant!!!
Mark my words: Freeland’s is going to become THE destination. Yes, they just opened, but the attention to detail, the setting, and that perfect balance of rustic elegance screams “future institution.” Get in now before the reservations become impossible.
The seating is comfy and space stylish, open kitchen, clean and chic with diverse offerings for all palates (adventurous offerings as well as creative takes on favorite classics)
Can’t wait to be back!
The Somalia suggested a great bottle of Bordeaux, which paired well with the sirloin steak. We sampled the Heirloom tomatoes, oysters, Buratta cheese and they were all phenomenal.
The Desserts were also amazing. Will definitely come back.
The restaurant is in the middle of a cul-de-sac with no real sign outside. It is in a two story house. It seem a bit unassuming but is decorated nice inside. Fairly spacious. A lot of the tables share a long booth bench. We were sat at a 2 person high top table by the bar. We were able to park right in front of the restaurant. I am not sure the closest place to park if you don’t get parking outside.
We ordered two appetizers: carrot and grilled cabbage.
They were able to modify them to make them vegan. They were both delicious. The grilled cabbage was exceptionally good. For an entree I ordered the cauliflower steak and my wife got the New York strip. She really enjoyed the steak and the cauliflower steak was great. It was a large portion. I will definitely be back and would probably get the same things because they were so good.
