I gave two stars just because it was cool to visit the original Freebirds. Over the years, I have enjoyed the food and atmosphere in many different towns and locations. This visit was disappointing. All of the bar seating was completely unavailable due to boxes being piled up. Finding a place to sit would have been challenging if the line wasn’t moving so slow. The cashier spent most of her time griping at the people who were preparing the food and it seemed like she would have rather been anywhere else. When we sat down, the chicken was undercooked and we ended up throwing our food away. I would recommend one of the other Freebirds locations in town as they are run much better.

I mean, did you go to Texas A&M if you didn’t go to the original Freebirds??? I came in for lunch and got a Freebird bowl with the ranch hand steak. The guy who served me was awesome, he was kind and quick! All of the toppings tasted fresh; I splurged and got some queso and guacamole, both were delicious! I’d come back all the time if it wasn’t nearing the edge of my lunch budget. I’ll be back, I’d love to try the chicken!

My brother was so excited to eat at the original location. You could tell it was original, it is a bit dated. Very friendly staff and fantastic queso. The whole family enjoyed their meal.

Food is slightly better than chipotle, the price is very high. Can’t justify the price for monster if there’s not much difference to Freebird. Also charged me extra for no reason.

Had a fajita chicken burrito for lunch after the football game on Saturday. The chicken was okay…nothing compared to 3 decades ago when I attended Texas A&M and ate at this location. Good portion size and quite substantial for the post game hunger!!

Took my son for some driving hours and nostalgia. They had no queso? Missed all the foil decor. Food was good although I didn’t access my burrito properly to see which end to start on.

Overall good experience. TLDR: better than Chipotle!
The staff seem to… take their sweet time. Only a select couple employees (one I think is the manager) ever seems to care about your time, the rest move pretty slow. Quality of food is pretty good, and they’re pretty consistent with portion sizes (not huge, not small). I wish it was a little cheaper, but I’ll be back for a good burrito 🙂
