I was highly disappointed, and that’s that. The chicken wings were burnt, extremely dry, looked as if they had been sitting all day, weren’t even warm, and the skin was unchewable. There wasn’t an ounce of moisture in the wings and when herbs and spices burn….they become bitter. That’s exactly what happened here. The wings alone makes me question the food storage, preparation, and safety protocol.
However, the brisket was pretty good considering that it didn’t have a smoke ring and was very well done. I like my meat well done and this was still good to be slightly over well done.
The baked beans were not good and the potato salad tasted store brought. Maybe something added to it to make it appear as homemade, but it still didn’t taste good.

I stopped in Ashland due to ridiculous traffic on 95. Since traffic wasn’t moving I looked up BBQ places. The closest BBQ restaurant didn’t have a good review in 3 years and Freakin BBQ has stellar reviews. Easy choice.
I met the staff, they were friendly and suggested the 3 meat platter. I picked Brisket, Wings and Ribs. I got Collard Greens and Mac and Cheese as my sides.
I got 3 Ribs, a slice of Brisket and 2 smoked wings. They also gave me dipping sauce.
The Ribs were delicious and pulled right off the bone. The Brisket very good. I loved it. I tried the smoked wings. It was at that time I remembered that I don’t like smoked poultry. It’s no reflection the restaurant It’s a reflection on my lack of memory. That’s why I started writing my experiences in restaurants because I forget which foods I don’t like. The Mac and Cheese was like my mom makes and was great. The Collards were some of the best I ever had anywhere. I had almost consumed the entire meal and realized I never dipped anything in the sauce. DAAAAAANNNG! The sauce levels up the meat.
I highly recommend this BBQ restaurant.
Next time I’m trying the pulled pork and I’m getting the Collards again.

While driving from Philadelphia to Richmond we discovered this restaurant while refueling. I have nothing but good things to say about this restaurant. I don’t know where to start. I could start by saying the staff made me feel right at home when I walked through the door. Or should I start by saying how well prepared the food was. It taste was even better. If anyone is ever in the Richmond area, I recommend you check this place out.

Looking for a neighborhood spot for BBQ after church? This it! I didn’t need no sauce! They do give you some, but you don’t need it. I had melt in your mouth brisket and pulled pork for my 2 meat special. Not overly cooked or spices to crisis, flavorful. Collards with a touch of sweet and vinegar and potatoe salad for my side. Iced tea with taste, not cold sugar water. This is a hidden gem. It will easily make you a regular. This was my first time, and I was impressed. Keep in mind that this is a neighborhood spot. I loved it not thinking about impressing anybody, just wanted to relax and eat. As always, tip generously!

Glad I took the drive up from the city to try here. In addition to the standard brisket and ribs, what I really suggest coming for is what the other BBQ places in Richmond don’t make, the smoked wings (they have a lot of dry rub on them) and the lamb chops (awesome). The North Carolina style pulled pork was fine, but adding the vinegar based BBQ sauce made it exponentially better. If you’re driving on Rt 95, this is well worth the very quick detour.

Stopped in on my birthday for some Freakin BBQ. I had the two meat dinner. The food came out very quickly. The pulled pork was good. Moist, tender, flavorful. The brisket wasn’t bad. Tender, with a smokey flavor. I enjoyed the mac & cheese and the collards, which had a vinegary/sweet flavor, as well as a little bit of heat. Looking forward to trying out the fish dinner.
Be aware: they added an 18% service charge in addition to sales tax. Not sure if this is just for credit card orders, but they also give you the option to add a tip before they total your order, so take this into consideration. My $20 meal cost me $25. If you are buying multiple dinners, it could be much more.

Phenomenal service, mouthwatering flavors. Brisket: tender, juicy, delicious run. Greens: a symphony of flavors clearly crafted with care. Macaroni & cheese: consistency perfect not too runny or a brick, pepper & soo cheesy. Thank you for blessing my tastebuds. I’d go on but my food is getting cold.
